Hillary Clinton Cancels California Trip, Needs Time To Recuperate
Hillary Clinton, fresh off an episode where she appeared to faint in public at a 9/11 memorial, has canceled her fundraising trip to California and has said she will stay at home and rest both Monday and Tuesday.
Sunday, while attending a 9/11 memorial commemoration along with other dignitaries in New York City, Hillary Clinton complained to her staff that she was “overheated” and needed to leave. Video taken at the scene shows her appearing to faint as her security helped her into her car and sped her off. She had only been at the ceremony for an hour and a half.
The Hillary Clinton campaign issued a statement that she was feeling overheated and suffering the effects of pneumonia, which she had been diagnosed with two days earlier. The campaign said that Clinton went to her daughter’s Manhattan apartment to rest. Hillary Clinton appeared more than two hours after her arrival at Chelsea Clinton’s apartment and said she felt great and planned on going out to enjoy what was left of such a beautiful New York Day. Aides say she was then brought to a car where she left New York City for Chappaqua, New York, where she maintains her permanent home. Her husband Bill Clinton was there waiting for her to return.
Questions about Hillary Clinton’s health have dogged her throughout this campaign. Her opponent, billionaire Donald Trump, has repeatedly told crowds that he didn’t believe that Hillary Clinton has the mental or physical stamina to do the job, which would require her to put in long hours and late nights working on the economy and to fight the Islamic State (ISIS).
Trump, in order to capitalize on Hillary Clinton’s recent health issues, has announced that he plans on going on television this week to discuss his daily health routine. He says he went and took a physical last week and that he plans on releasing detailed medical records this week.
Hillary Clinton’s fainting episode and subsequent release of the information that Hillary Clinton was recently diagnosed with pneumonia forced the campaign to release a statement by her doctor.
“Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies,” Dr. Lisa R. Bardack said in the statement. “On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule. While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely.”
Health is a bigger issue facing both candidates this election season as they are two of the oldest candidates ever to run for the office. Donald Trump is 70-years-old and Hillary Clinton is 68. The previous oldest candidate in American history was Ronald Reagan who ran for office at 69. He served two very successful terms in office and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease shortly after leaving office. Despite his health issues, he did not die until reaching 93-years-old.
Hillary Clinton plans on resuming her schedule in Nevada on Wednesday morning with a campaign swing through Las Vegas. She had originally planned on spending Monday and Tuesday in California attending fundraisers and appearing on Ellen DeGeneres’ show.
Donald Trump has recently been gaining on Hillary Clinton in the polls and Clinton has been forced to address her health on a more specific level. Trump, in addition to having his surrogates bring up the issues about Hillary Clinton’s health, has been further driving home the issues that the electorate is having with Hillary Clinton’s honesty. She has repeatedly been forced to address several issue relating to her handling of classified information and her allowing access to high profile donors of her family’s foundation.
