Taylor Swift: I Don’t Want To Know What John Mayer Thinks Of Me
Taylor Swift has been known to turn the intimate details of her love life into public fodder through her songs, but when ex-boyfriend John Mayer tried to make his feelings known about being the subject of an angry song, Swift says she didn’t want to hear about it.
In an interview with Glamour, Taylor Swift tried to beg off the question when John Mayer came up. The interviewer asked her thoughts about the song Dear John, which Mayer said “humiliated him” and was “a really lousy thing for her to do.”
“No! I don’t want to know, I don’t want to know,” Taylor Swift said.
As E! Online noted, Taylor herself can dish it out but has a hard time taking it.
“I know it wasn’t good, so I don’t want to know,” she said. “I put a high priority on staying happy, and I know what I can’t handle.”
Swift was also defensive of “Dear John,” saying she never reveals who her songs are about. John Mayer has also said he “doesn’t deserve” the scorn of Taylor Swift’s song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” presumed to be about him.
The 22-year-old singer noted that she’s too sensitive to start listening to what others think of her:
“It’s not that I’m this egomaniac and I don’t want to hear anything negative,. Because I do keep myself in check. But I’ve never developed that thick a skin…If you go too far down the rabbit hole of what people think about you, it can change everything about who you are.”
Even though her songs are virtual diary of her personal life, when asked about her 18-year-old boyfriend Conor Kennedy, Taylor Swift again got shy.
“I don’t talk about my personal life in great detail. I write about it in my songs, and I feel like you can share enough about your life in your music to let people know what you’re going through.”
John Mayer would probably agree with Taylor Swift on that account.
