Sofia Richie Dishes On Her ‘Special’ Relationship With Justin Bieber, Isn’t Bothered By Selena Gomez Drama?
Sofia Richie and Justin Bieber are official.
Following an outing in Laguna Beach, California, in early August and a trip to Japan weeks later, where both parties shared photos of one another on social media, Sofia Richie is speaking out about their “special” relationship.
“We have a special relationship,” Sofia Richie said during an interview with Billboard magazine on September 8. “Justin is very easy to talk to, and that’s hard to find with people in Los Angeles.”
Sofia Richie and Justin Bieber were first spotted together in Southern California earlier this summer but it wasn’t until their trip to Japan when things between them appeared to get serious.

First, as Us Weekly reported at the time, the 22-year-old “Company” singer posted a shirtless photo of himself in his underwear (with his hands covering his private region) and Sofia Richie dabbing in the background of what appeared to be a hotel room. One hour later, a second photo was posted which featured the couple making pouty faces at the camera. Meanwhile, Sofia Richie also shared a photo of her new man on Instagram, which featured the singer with an octopus hat on his head.
After sharing a couple of photos on Instagram, confirming the romance that was rumored to be brewing, Bieber’s fans began to harass Sofia Richie and in response, he threatened to make his account private.

In the caption of a photo of himself and Sofia Richie in a car in Japan, Bieber wrote, via Us Weekly, “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand. If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people like that.”
After Bieber’s ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, got wind of his photo with Sofia Richie and learned of what he said, she shared a post of her own, which read, “If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.”
Although Gomez appeared to be poking fun at her ex-boyfriend and Sofia Richie, Bieber didn’t take the joke lightly and reacted to the post by accusing Gomez of using him for attention. In turn, she slammed him for taking aim at her after she was the one who offered him forgiveness after he was allegedly unfaithful to her “multiple” times during their relationship.
A short while later, before Sofia Richie’s boyfriend deleted his account entirely, Bieber wrote a message back to Gomez, which reportedly said, “I cheated… Oh I forgot about You and Zayn?”
While their time in Japan caused quite a lot of controversy, Sofia Richie doesn’t seem to care about the ongoing speculation into her romance. In fact, when Billboard magazine asked the daughter of iconic musician Lionel Richie how she felt about the recent drama, she said, “I’m going to be real with you: It. Doesn’t. Bother. Me. As long as I’m happy.”
Since their dramatic trip to Japan, Sofia Richie and Justin Bieber have spent tons of time together in Los Angeles and at the end of last month, in celebration of Sofia Richie’s 18th birthday, the new couple traveled to Mexico where they didn’t hesitate to show off their affections for one another on the beach.
