‘Game Of Thrones’: Angela Lansbury Is Not Joining The Season 7 Cast, Even If A Super-Sleuth Is Probably Needed In King’s Landing

Game of Thrones fans got excited recently with the news Angela Lansbury was expected to be joining the Season 7 cast line up. So, is this rumor even true or has it been dispelled? And, if it is, what GoT role would she play?

Spoiler Alert: This article discusses Season 6 and 7 of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

A recent announcement was made that Angela Lansbury would join the Season 7 cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Immediately, fans and media outlets started trying to work out which role Lansbury would play. By far the favorite contender was an older version of Maggy the Frog.

Maggy was seen in Season 5 of Game of Thrones in a Cersei flashback. Considering the prediction made by her that Cersei would outlive all of her children came true in Season 6, it seems likely Maggy could return in Season 7 of GoT. This prediction is further evidenced by the fact that in the books the TV show is based on, Maggy actually makes a further prediction: that Cersei will die at the hand of her “little brother.”

Others suggested Angela Lansbury could play the matriarch of the Greyjoy family. As Inverse pointed out, Euron Greyjoy is currently looking for allies since Yara and Theon Greyjoy stole his fleet. If this is the case he might “pay his sister-in-law a visit.” However, having Angela Lansbury at the head of such a miserable family like the Greyjoys would possibly be a disappointment for her fans.

Inverse also suggested, considering the role was supposed to be a short one, Angela Lansbury’s part might be similar to the role Ian McShane played in Season 6 of Game of Thrones, meaning it could be a short, but deadly GoT role. Since the TV series has overrun the book series, it is hard to speculate on what sort of a role this would be in Season 7.

While some think the Murder, She Wrote actress could help sort out the intrigue in King’s Landing after Cersei Lannister blew it up or return to make further dire predictions for the new queen of Westeros, it turns out this announcement was a rumor and nothing more after Angela Lansbury dispelled the rumor.

The announcement was initially made via Bild, a German news site. The site stated that Angela Lansbury would film for four days and appear in two episodes of Season 7 of Game of Thrones. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, “neither HBO or Lansbury’s publicist have confirmed her involvement.”

Angela Lansbury has now made an official statement via Entertainment Weekly in regard to the rumor Angela Lansbury would be joining Game of Thrones in Season 7. “This is not accurate,” Lansbury’s team told EW. Sorry guys, that rumor has been dispelled and Angela will not be seen in Westeros any time soon, it seems. EW also pointed out that Bild is “notorious for its mix of gossip, inflammatory language, and sensationalism.”

So far, as Time has pointed out, the only new actor confirmed as signing on for Season 7 of Game of Thrones is that of Jim Broadbent. He has been cast in a “significant” role, but nothing more has been revealed about what that role will involve. So, of course, fans have been speculating about the role he will play. The Hollywood Reporter suggested Broadbent’s role could be that of a maester. In particular, Maester Marwyn or Maester Yandel.

Another suggestion has Broadbent possibly filling the role of Howland Reed. Fans will remember him from Bran’s visions of his father’s past. Howland was present at the battle at the Tower of Joy and could be privy to the information that Jon Snow is actually Lyanna’s son and not Ned’s. As Inverse points out, the role of Howland Reed would be a significant new role moving forward into Season 7 of Game of Thrones because Reed could be the “only living person who knows the truth about Jon Snow’s parentage.”
