‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Wins TV Choice Award Ahead of Emmy Awards 2016
Ahead of the 2016 Emmy Awards, HBO’s Game of Thrones has already begun adding to its awards pile, picking up one of the biggest accolades at the TV Choice Awards in the United Kingdom. TV Choice magazine uses its annual awards ceremony to dish out trophies to its readers’ favorite shows on TV. Quite predictably, Game of Thrones was one of the biggest winners of the night, as one of the most popular TV shows in the United Kingdom, where the HBO fantasy drama is primarily filmed.
According to Winter Is Coming, the outlet bestowed the Best International Show award on Game of Thrones, however, the show had to fend off some pretty tough competition. The Best International Show category spans across a number of different genres and encompasses hit shows including The Walking Dead and The Big Bang Theory. However, ultimately, it was HBO’s Game of Thrones that captured the hearts of viewers in the United Kingdom, voting it as their favorite international show.

Michael McElhatton, best known for his role as the late Roose Bolton in Game of Thrones, was given the honor of collecting the award. That being said, several other members of Game of Thrones‘ UK-based cast attended the TV Choice Awards in order to see their show win the big accolade.
Aside from the aforementioned award for the best international show, the TV Choice Awards primarily focus on British television. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Downton Abbey managed to pick up the Best Drama Series award for its final season earlier this year. At the same time, Best Actor was bestowed upon Tom Hiddleston for his role in The Night Manager and The Great British Bake Off once again collected the award for Best Talent Show, firmly cementing its position as one of the most popular shows on British television.
Interestingly, however, the Best International Award was bestowed to Game of Thrones by TV Choice following its fourth season, but not fifth. Last year, the magazine instead decided to pass the award to Breaking Bad, which in turn, lost out to Game of Thrones at this year’s awards.

The TV Choice Awards mark the start of the 2016 awards season, placing Game of Thrones as one of the biggest winners already. However, the big event on the TV calendar is expected to be the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, which take place on September 16. According to Unreality TV, Game of Thrones is nominated for an incredible 23 Emmy awards in total. However, the show only needs to manage a single win in order to have won more Emmys than other drama in history.
Game of Thrones is, of course, expected to be the big performer in the drama category at the 2016 Emmy Awards. Bookmakers are predicting that Game of Thrones will secure the award for best drama by a pretty wide margin. At the same time, the award for best comedy will also be given to HBO for Veep. The comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been an incredible performer at recent Emmy awards and given its critically acclaimed Season 5, the show is once again expected to win big at the awards.
The 68th Annual Emmy Awards will take place on Sunday, September 18. This year’s awards will be aired on ABC and hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
