‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13: Sandra Oh To Return In Episode 2, ‘The Return Of Cristina Yang’?
Speculation that Sandra Oh is returning to Grey’s Anatomy hit fever pitch on September 6 after eagle-eyed viewers claimed that a major giveaway appeared online.
Grey’s Anatomy fans flocked to social media to suggest that Oh’s return as Cristina Yang had been officially confirmed after Twitter user @The_GreyMethod claimed that the title for Episode 2 of the ABC medical drama had been revealed.
The Grey’s Anatomy fan tweeted out a screen shot of the alleged title on the 140-character site, claiming that Episode 2 of Season 13 could be titled “The Return of Cristina Yang,” while other sources alleged that the episode is also set to be directed by Kevin McKidd, who plays Owen, Cristina’s former husband.
Those behind the scenes, including Sandra and Grey’s Anatomy creator and showrunner Shonda Rhimes, have yet to comment on the authenticity of the title that popped up on September 6, but that didn’t stop the drama’s fans from getting seriously excited on social media.

The big Grey’s Anatomy tease got a number of the show’s most dedicated viewers claiming that the unconfirmed title all but confirmed Oh’s return.
“The return of Cristina Yang’ OHMYGOD,” Grey’s Anatomy fan @ca1zona tweeted out amid the rampant speculation surrounding Sandra’s potential return, while @beccasptx tweeted out, “THE RETURN OF CRISTINA YANG IM SCREAMING.”
But while some Grey’s Anatomy fans took the Episode 2 title rumors as a definite sign that Cristina would be heading back to Grey Sloan Memorial, others were quick to shoot down the rumors, noting that the show’s past episodes have all been named after song titles.
“Greys titles all their episodes by a song name, so if Cristina returns it won’t be ‘The return of Cristina Yang,'” Twitter user @Ellee_eeee noted amid the rampant speculation about Yang’s possible return.
“Why would the episode be called ‘The Return of Cristina Yang’ when all the [episodes are] named after songs?” Grey’s Anatomy fan @kepsavery also added on the social media site.
“All Grey’s episodes are named after song titles,” @neurolexie continued. “‘The Return of Cristina Yang’ is not a song title so I doubt it’s true she’ll be back.”
Sandra Oh has yet to comment on the rampant rumors claiming she’s returning to Grey’s Anatomy in Season 13, though she did appear to hint that a return to the drama could be in the cards after her character’s former husband, Owen, prepared to marry Amelia in the Season 12 finale.
Sandra joked about Owen moving on from Cristina in a tweet on June 10, in which she hinted that she wasn’t too happy to see Yang’s former husband marry again.

“And wait – my TV husband has a new TV wife?? Xqueez me?” Sandra captioned a snap of herself and actor Kevin McKidd on Twitter. “I don’t think so, Ha! Owen what r u thinking??” she joked in the photo’s caption.
But while Grey’s Anatomy fans will have to wait a little longer to see if the return of Cristina Yang really comes to fruition, it has been revealed that Season 13’s focus will be on the veteran characters.
Kelly McCreary, who plays Maggie Pierce on the show, confirmed to TV Guide earlier this year that Season 13 would go “back to basics” and give fans a better look at the relationships between the Grey’s Anatomy characters who have been with the drama for a while, which may or may not include Yang.
“I think we can expect to see those doctors being explored where they are in this moment,” Kelly said, noting that Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy will focus more “on those old, established relationships and those characters” and will “check in with where they are.”
Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy season is set to premiere on ABC on September 22.
