Apple’s Beastly iPhone 7 Benchmarked? Leaked Specs Show iPhone 7 Outpacing Galaxy Note 7

Apple loves to keep a tight lid on the specs, features, and secrets of its iPhones, iPads, and other devices, but even mighty Cupertino can’t keep everything under wraps. As the world preps for the presumed unveiling of the iPhone 7 this Wednesday, it looks like the House that Steve Jobs Built has sprung a leak or two, as supposed specs for the iPhone 7 appear to have hit the internet just days before Apple shows off the device. The good news for Apple: Those specs, if correct, mean that the iPhone 7 is going to leave all of the competition in its dust, even Samsung’s vaunted Galaxy Note 7.

The newly leaked specs come courtesy of Redditor rev93, and they appear to show the performance of the iPhone 7 on the standard Geekbench single-core and multi-core benchmark tests. Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 7 appears to score 3379 on Geekbench’s single-core performance test, and 5495 on the Geekbench multi-core test.

How does the new iPhone 7 compare to devices from Apple’s biggest competitor, Samsung? This year’s Galaxy S7 edge, according to BGR, managed a score of 2141 on Geekbench’s single-core test and 5232 on the multi-core test. Geekbench had the Galaxy Note 7 Exynos version pulling respective scores of 2081 and 6500 on the same tests, while the Snapdragon 820 version of the Note 7 managed scores of 1900 and over 5500.

To try to put that more in perspective, if these scores are accurate, it looks like Apple’s iPhone 7 will be able to outpace even the 12-inch iPad Pro, which Apple released last year. Once it’s released, the iPhone 7 will be the fastest mobile device Apple has on the market, except maybe for the iPhone 7 Plus.

When it comes to the iPhone, iPhone Plus, and its iPads, Apple never really dwells too much on the sort of specs we see in this leaked Geekbench report. When the iPhone 7 is unveiled, Apple will probably simply say it is “[x-amount] faster than the iPhone 6s” and talk up how well it handles “console level” games or some such. Still, tech sites have been getting apparent glimpses into the internals of the iPhone 7, and those glimpses seem to back up the notion that these leaked iPhone benchmarks could be the real deal.

Apple rumor site 9to5Mac reported last week on details from well-connected KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said that the A10 processor in Apple’s iPhone 7 will be a major upgrade over the A9 processor Apple put in the iPhone 6s. Reportedly, Apple’s A10 processor will have a maximum clock speed of 2.4GHz, which is blazing fast. According to iDownloadBlog, those scores mean the iPhone 7 could be up to a third faster than the already blazing iPhone 6s. Apple’s iPhone from last year, if you’re wondering, can still hold its own against this year’s competition, and the iPhone 7 is set to blow the iPhone 6s away. The iPhone 7 Plus may wind up even faster than the iPhone 7, as it will have an extra 1GB of RAM in order to process what insiders are pretty sure will be a drastically upgraded camera setup.

Of course, the internals of a new iPhone from Apple are only part of the reason the hype kicks into overdrive around this time every year. The other part is the looks of the device. It looks like this year, Apple is sticking with only small updates to the external for the iPhone 7. The device will look a lot like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, but Apple will apparently move those unsightly antenna lines on the back of the device, making the rear of the iPhone 7 pretty clean looking by comparison.

The other development in the iPhone looks department involves colors. As the Inquisitr previously noted, insiders expect that Apple will boost the number of colors available for the iPhone 7. Apple is expected to offer the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in silver, rose gold, gold, space grey, and glossy black.

So what do you think of the rumors surrounding Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7? Do you think the next iPhone is going to blow away Apple’s competition? Does Apple’s apparent speed advantage with the iPhone 7 over the Galaxy Note 7 make you more likely to tune in for Wednesday’s event when Apple unveils the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus?
