‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13: Sandra Oh To Bring Back Cristina Yang?
Ever since Sandra Oh left Grey’s Anatomy in 2014, fans have been lobbying for the actress to bring back her beloved character Cristina Yang, but could she finally be returning in Season 13?
Fans of the long-running medical drama have been taking to social media to speculate that Cristina could be returning in the coming episodes of Grey’s Anatomy after a slew of hints appeared to suggest that the character could potentially make her triumphant return.
Grey’s Anatomy fans’ speculation was sent into overdrive after Kelly McCreary, who plays Maggie Pierce, revealed in a candid interview with TV Guide that Season 13 of the medical drama would see things go “back to basics” and will be focusing on the relationships between the characters who have been at Grey Sloan Memorial hospital for the past several seasons.
The actress revealed to the site that the coming Grey’s Anatomy episodes will “focus on those old, established relationships and those characters” and will “check in with where they are.”
While Sandra has so far stayed tight-lipped on whether or not she’ll be heading back to the ABC drama, McCreary’s latest revelations got Grey’s Anatomy fans seriously excited that Season 13’s focus on “established relationships” could allude to Cristina’s return in the midst of her former husband’s wedding to Amelia in the Season 12 finale.
“Word on the street is that an original character from Grey’s will be in Season 13,” @KasiaMurphy tweeted out amid the swirling rumors of Cristina’s return. “Swear if it’s Christina ima cry like a baby.”
“Rumor has it Cristina Yang is coming back to Grey’s and I’m doing back flips,” @IrishRooney4 wrote. “If Cristina makes a return in this season of Grey’s, I’m going to convulse out of happiness,” Grey’s Anatomy fan @_juliaharris_ added.
But while those behind the scenes of the show aren’t giving too much away about whether or not Cristina Yang will back, producer Debbie Allen has also dropped a pretty big hint about Season 13 that Grey’s Anatomy fans are speculating could be pointing towards Cristina’s return.
“Can’t wait to share Season 13, episode 1 with you! Sit tight!” Debbie wrote on Instagram earlier this year, alongside a snap of a Grey’s Anatomy script that revealed the premiere episode of Season 13 is titled “Undo.”
Allen didn’t give too much more away about exactly what would be undone in the first episode of the new season, though Grey’s Anatomy fans were quick to speculate that the title could be referring to Cristina’s return and the “undoing” of Owen and Amelia’s wedding.

“We’re begging you [Grey’s Anatomy]. Please Bring Cristina back and undo Owen and Amelia’s Marriage. Pls bring [Sandra Oh] back. PLS” @GMeiSanchez tweeted out of “Undo,” while @GMeiSanchez tweeted in reply, “maybe undo the past and have Cristina come back.”
Sandra is yet to comment on the circulating rumors suggesting she’ll be returning to the show in Season 13, though Oh has made it known in recent months that her Grey’s Anatomy character certainly isn’t too far from her mind.
“And wait – my TV husband has a new TV wife?? Xqueez me? I don’t think so, Ha!” Sandra captioned a photo of herself and Kevin McKidd on the set of the ABC drama after Owen, who was married to Cristina, wed Amelia in the season 12 finale. “Owen what r u thinking??” Oh joked.
Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy season will premiere on ABC on September 22.
