Rumor: iPhone 7 Will Come In Five Colors, Will Feature IPX7 Water Resistance
Apple is all set to announce its newest iPhone, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, on September 7 at an event in San Francisco. Invites for the event were already sent to most tech publications around the world that will cover the launch event with great interest. With just two days to go for the imminent launch, we still have a steady stream of rumors coming our way that talk about the expected spec sheet on the new iPhone 7.
While we usually tend to dismiss most of these as uncorroborated reports, a new report did manage to grab our attention. According to popular Apple-centric website MacRumors, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is known for his very accurate iPhone-related predictions, has released a report that talks about several features the upcoming iPhone 7 model might sport.

The detailed report talks about the fact that the iPhone 7 would be powered by a brand new Apple A10 chip, which would be clocked anywhere between 2.4 and 2.45 GHz. The report adds that the company would drop the 16GB version of the iPhone completely and the new models would only be sold in 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB versions. While the iPhone 7 would get 2GB of RAM, the larger iPhone 7 Plus may get 1GB more.
Both versions are also set to arrive in five different colors. The color options include silver, gold, rose gold, and a dark black color variant that will replace the space gray color variant. Another color that Kuo confirms is a glossy piano black variant.
One of the most important additions to the iPhone 7 feature list, if it arrives, would be IPX7 water resistance. Ming-Chi Kuo has once again stated that both the new iPhone 7 models would indeed feature the much-needed water resistance capability. With a host of other players frequently introducing water resistance phones, there is no reason why Apple cannot do the same. In fact, following the recent controversy surrounding the Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s exploding battery, there might be heightened interest in the iPhone 7 — even among consumers who were originally planning to get themselves a Note 7. Kuo’s report states that the iPhone 7 would feature improved IPX7 capability, which would make the phone “suitable for splashes, showering, and even brief dips in water up to one meter deep.”

The other major change that you may see on the iPhone 7 is the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. In his report, Kuo has one again confirmed that instead of the 3.5mm headphone jack, Apple would use its own lightning jack to connect its proprietary headphones to the phone. While this might be bad news for people who already have expensive 3.5mm jack-based audio equipment, it is highly plausible that Apple would also come up with an adapter that would be used to connect existing audio equipment to the iPhone without much fuss.
As for the camera, Kuo is betting big on the possibility of the Phone 7 Plus getting a dual camera setup at the back. The smaller, less expensive iPhone 7 would get a single camera. One of the dual cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus would be used to capture wide angle shots and would feature larger pixel sizes, a 6P lens, and optical image stabilization. The other camera would be more suited for telephoto applications and will get a 5P lens and smaller pixel sizes. The flash at the rear too could see a major upgrade.
How many of these rumors do you think would come true? We should be able to find everything out on the day the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus is officially launched, which is two days from now!
