Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge Plus Update: Verizon Wireless Rolling Out Latest Firmware With New Features

Verizon Wireless just released another software update, this time for its variants of Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, according to GSM Arena. The new rollout quickly follows Verizon’s recent firmware upgrade for the South Korean tech giant’s 2016 flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

According to Verizon Wireless’ individual support page for its Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+, the latest software update brought along improvements and new Galaxy features. One of the highlights of the new firmware, with build number VRU2BPG5, is providing support to Barcode Beaming Service, which makes the recognition response of on-device coupons, event tickets, loyalty cards, library cards, membership cards, among others, even better.

The feature basically transmits barcode information to the Samsung Galaxy device, “improving or correcting the recognition response due to varying brightness levels and screen glare,” Verizon’s support page noted. Barcode Beaming Service also allows users to easily scan on-device barcodes while using supported mobile applications like Beep’nGo and Samsung Pay.

Moreover, the latest firmware update released by the mobile network carrier also added three new ways for customers the Contacts app on their Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920V) and Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G928V). The first one is through profile sharing which allows Verizon subscribers to share profiles and images. The second method is simple sharing, applicable to send files as heavy as 1 GB. Lastly, there’s event sharing which allows users to share events by simply inviting their contacts to join them. This also gives the contacts the opportunity to add their own videos and images.

Verizon’s VRU2BPG5 firmware update also brings along OnCircle, which is “a new addition to People Edge, providing ways for creative communication, with more than just words,” the description on Verizon’s page noted. With this feature, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ owners on Verizon can easily express themselves through video clips, emoticons, doodles and touch effects.

Upon the successful installation of the firmware update, Verizon users should notice that Amazon Music has been removed as a pre-installed app, although it is still available to download on Google Play Store. Listed only on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ support page, the update now adds the Amazon widget, giving users easy access to Amazon apps.

The Verizon update can be accessed via Over-the-Air or OTA system. There should be an automatic push notification showing up on the handset to signal Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note 5 owners that a firmware update is available. Those who are too excited for the update can manually verify the firmware’s availability by going to Settings menu and then look for About Device, choose Software Updates and lastly, tap the Check for Updates options.

Take note as well that to download and install the Verizon update for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+, a reliable Wi-Fi connection or a stable Verizon Wireless signal is important. The smartphone’s battery needs to be fully charged as well.

As for other related news, Verizon recently enabled LTE Advanced which aims to provide “people in 461 cities from coast to coast 50 percent faster peak wireless data speeds on its fast and reliable 4G LTE network,” its press release read.
