Photo Shows Reds’ Jay Bruce Levitating
A widely reported on image of Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce appears to show the the player blasting off like some kind of human spaceship in the outfield of Great American Ballpark.
The photo, taken by Joe Robbins of Getty Images and reported on by Big League Stew, shows the levitating Jay Bruce with his arms at his sides, yet he’s several feet off the ground, his head and shoulders clearly above the outfield wall. (Click here to see photo).
Based on the facial expressions of the crowd, it seems the photo was taken just after a home run cleared the wall by several feet. While looking for the ball, it seems most of the fans missed Bruce’s significantly impressive leap.
Bettor.com reports that while Bruce and the Reds have clinched the National League Central Championship, the offense hasn’t quite been hitting on all cylinders, and Bruce knows he’s part of the problem.
“It’s always important to just be as prepared as you can. Baseball is a game of ups and downs,” Bruce said. “We’re going to be fine. We’ve either [been] tied or one game back for the best record in baseball. We haven’t played as well as we can of late, but I am completely confident that we will.”
Bruce is batting 7-for-50 this month, and his teammates haven’t picked up all the slack. The team is batting just .229 in September. But with solid starting pitching, including a no-hitter by Homer Bailey on Friday, the Reds have been able to keep on winning.
The Reds were scheduled to face the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday night.
