Johnny Depp Won’t Be Starring In Director Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’

Contrary to popular belief, Johnny Depp will not be starring in director Wes Anderson’s upcoming motion picture The Grand Budapest Hotel, according to Cinema Blend. Although the acclaimed filmmaker admitted that he would enjoy working with the Pirates of the Caribbean star at some point down the road, it definitely won’t be on his next endeavor.

“You know, the internet has a way of announcing things on its own,” Wes Anderson explained to The Huffington Post. “You will find that even though I’m very aware of the cast that has been announced on its own devices, you’ll never find me saying who’s in the movie. Or, as far as I know, anybody else. I really don’t know where it all comes from. In fact, Johnny is somebody who I would love to work with at some point, but he’s not going to be in this movie. But I actually have not put the cast out — I have not announced the cast. We have quite a great cast.”

Despite not having properly announced the cast to the world at-large, word has gotten out that Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel will feature frequent collaborator Bill Murray and renowned actress Angela Lansbury. Beyond that, little is known about Anderson’s latest project. When asked about the plot, the Rushmore director stated that it was “European.”

On a related note, Wes Anderson’s previous project, the critically-acclaimed Moonrise Kingdom, is finally headed to home video. After enjoying a healthy theatrical run this summer, the film, which stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, and Bill Murray, is slated to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on October 16.

Although Johnny Depp fans might be disappointed about The Grand Budapest Hotel, the actor still has a number of projects currently in the works. In addition to director Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger, the actor is rumored to be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow once again in Pirates of the Caribbean 5.
