WWE News: WWE Threatened To Fire WWE Superstar Paige If She Didn’t Break Up With Alberto Del Rio
WWE Superstar Paige has been in the press a good bit over the last few months. The main reason was her relationship with fellow WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio. Interestingly, both were suspended by the WWE last month due to a failed drug test under the WWE Wellness Policy. While this has happened to various wrestlers over the years, it is the first time a public couple were suspended at the same time over a drug failure.
Interestingly, Alberto Del Rio could be gone from the WWE this month, as his contract expires in October and he has an out-clause for September. His WWE suspension ends later this month, as does Paige’s. However, Paige’s contract doesn’t expire for some time, and while she is out with an injury, the company has a right to freeze the contract until she returns so that they can get as much out of her as they can.
All of this being said, Del Rio might be out of WWE this month, but Paige is stuck under contract for a while, and she won’t be leaving with him. WWE won’t let her out of the deal, and they seem to be very against the entire relationship between the two. This was discussed big time on today’s MLW Radio, with Mister Saint Laurent and Kevin Sullivan. Both have broken news in the world of pro-wrestling many times, and they may have uncovered something pretty big when it comes to Paige and Alberto Del Rio.
According to MLW, “Mark Carrano, who fans might know from Total Divas, kind of like the office liaison guy, approached Del Rio and Paige individually and harassed each of them about their relationship. It was indicated that the office wanted them to sever their romantic relationship.”
It has been rumored numerous times that people backstage have been against the two being together with some fearing that it would be terrible for Paige. Triple H, who runs talent relations, is not a big fan of Del Rio or his attitude. He was against bringing Del Rio back when they did, but Vince McMahon ultimately ruled for it to occur, so it did. Triple H has since tried to pull Vince back from giving Del Rio a shot at the top because of the issues he gives the company backstage.
This very well could be why Carrano was all for killing off the relationship, as he was clearly acting on orders. He was also acting on the same thought that many have had about the two being together since the relationship went public. It seemed that WWE was so against it that Carrano was willing to do something drastic.
MLW would go on from his comments, saying, “A lot of people speculated if this was the reason [WWE] split them up in the draft and that’s definitely what happened. The company did not want them together. They split them up in the draft by design and they threatened to fire Paige if she didn’t break up with Del Rio.”
Technically under various bylaws, WWE cannot do this. However, both are not originally from the United States and do not have a citizenship in the country. That means the WWE can threaten to kill off their contract in this way if they so desire, therefore Paige surely knew that they could go that far if they wanted to.
While most would believe WWE would be going way too far by threatening to fire someone over their relationship, it does appear the company cares about Paige and feels Alberto Del Rio is bad for her. They are not willing to lose her, especially when they know she still has a lot of potential. However, her choice in a relationship causes friction in the WWE, and it seems like it does for her personally going by the drug failure alone. That said, it will be interesting to see how things go down in the future with Paige and WWE.
