‘Descendants Of The Sun’ Season 2 Confirmed, But Song Hye Kyo And Song Joong Ki Won’t Return As Their ‘Story Has Been Told’

SongSong fans may be in for a disappointing 2017 after it was revealed the beloved K-drama Descendants of the Sun may return for Season 2 without its two most notable stars, Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki. The new season of DOTS is currently slated to air in 2017. However, the show is taking on an entirely different storyline, as show writer Won Seok is refusing to work on the plot for the second season since he claims “the story has been told.”

The Bit Bag reports that a representative from NEW has confirmed that Descendants of the Sun 2 is in the works and that the show’s second installment should air in 2017. The announcement was made back on June 8 but received little fanfare as SongSong fans were still enthralled with the love life rumors of stars Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki.

Although the announcement indicated that the series will be called Descendants of the Sun 2, it noted that there would be significant plot changes in the upcoming season as the show takes on new writers. The second season is reportedly going to closely follow the plot of the American crime drama Criminal Minds. Therefore, many SongSong fans are wondering if the new plot will leave room for Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that the new story will include Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki, as Season 1 writer Won Seok noted that their “story has been told.” Seok noted that the story was told in full the way he had hoped, therefore, he is refusing to work on Season 2 because he claims there is no more to the story between Shi-Jin and Dr. Mo-Yeon.

SongSong fans have long worried that the pair would not return for a second DOTS season as the pair both have reportedly declined roles in the new season due to other commitments and busy personal schedules. Although the new season of DOTS may not include Hye Kyo and Joong Ki, SongSong fans still have plenty of opportunities to see the pair together.

According to Movie News Guide, there are rumors that Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki might publicly announce that they are in a romantic relationship in September. Rumors have long been swirling that Hye Kyo and Joong Ki were in a private relationship, but neither Descendants of the Sun star would confirm the relationship. Therefore, SongSong fans were left to speculate about the future of their favorite television couple.

Both actors have said that they prefer private relationships, so it would not be completely out-of-the-question to assume that the pair might be secretly dating but keeping it private for the moment. However, with the pair slated to speak at an event in the Yeouido KBS Hall together on September 8, many SongSong fans are hoping that the pair will make a formal announcement of their relationship.

The rumors have deepened after it was revealed that the pair were seen holding hands while walking down the street. The show of affection has many wondering if Hye Kyo and Joong Ki may be hiding their secret relationship.
