With the enormous success that Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 r eceived it was only a matter of time before Hollywood started to talk and set in motion the preliminary steps for a sequel.
Although he hinted that he was unsure about directing the sequel, the 500 Days of Summer director, Marc Webb is said to be locked and loaded for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with star and arguably the best Spiderman Andrew Garfield attached.
The announcement about the plans to go forward with a Spider-Man 2 sequel with Webb and Garfield attached were announced this morning by Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad. As for the script it is said that Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci are collaborating and basing the origins on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt.
It also appears that Emma Stone is looking to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy girlfriend of Peter Parker. So far for Stone she’s still in negotiations, but it looks pretty promising that she’ll join off-screen boyfriend Andrew Garfield in the second installment.
At the conference Doug Belgrad said of the sequel plans:
“We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.”
Even though there’s no word on when the film is scheduled to shoot, you can expect to see Andrew Garfield in his signature Spider-Man suit when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.
