The ‘Party Of Slavery’: Donald Trump Calls Out Democrats On Their Racist History

The “party of slavery” is what Donald Trump has called the Democrats, and, as history can attest to, he’s not incorrect in his claim.

As reported by the Daily Mail, during a rally in Everett, Washington, on Tuesday, Trump also paid homage to Abraham Lincoln, saying the Republican Party was the “home” of the sixteenth president of the United States, who during his presidency played a part in ending the slavery of African Americans.

Last week, as reported by the Washington Post, Hillary Clinton went on a rant in Reno, Nevada, detailing all the reasons she believes Donald Trump is an unapologetic racist, and ever since it’s been a battle between the two to secure not just the votes of black Americans, but the votes of all American minorities.

“She said Trump is a man with a demonstrated history of racial discrimination in his business dealings, who is ‘reinforcing harmful stereotypes and offering a dog whistle to his most hateful supporters.'”

In addition to being the “party of slavery,” Trump went on to say that democrats are the “party of Jim Crow and the party of opposition.” He could have also added the Ku Klux Klan to that list, as democrats were the founders of the white supremacist hate group.

In his speech, Trump mentioned that many Americans, presumably low-information voters, do not know the history of the Democrats and their history as the “party of slavery,” their segregation laws and racist, anti-black policies.

The Democratic Party was established in 1792, and it’s the oldest existing American political party. In 1860, the party broke apart due to disagreements over extending slavery into territories of the West, according to pbs.org. This conflict ended up dividing the party into the Northern Democrats and Southern Democrats, and as a result of the split, the election of 1860 was won by Republican Abraham Lincoln.

“The Democratic Party identified itself as the ‘white man’s party’ and demonized the Republican Party as being ‘Negro dominated,’ even though whites were in control.”

Despite being divided on how to deal with slavery in the West, Northern and Southern democrats still united in their bigotry towards African Americans, thus both Democratic parties could still accurately be described on their own as the “party of slavery.”

“Northern Democrats, most of whom had prejudicial attitudes towards blacks, offered no challenge to the discriminatory policies of the Southern Democrats.”

According to history.com, the Ku Klux Klan arose during the aftermath of the Civil War as a force of opposition against the anti-slavery Republicans and the Blacks they sought to protect.

The domestic terror organization was established by several former Civil War soldiers who had fought as Confederates, and the KKK’s first leader, known to Klan members as the “grand wizard,” was Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Forrest served as a general for the Confederate army during the war and although he lacked experience, he proved successful in many endeavors.

“In addition to his ingenious cavalry tactics, Forrest is also remembered for his controversial involvement in the Battle of Fort Pillow in April 1864, when his troops massacred black soldiers following a Union surrender.”

KKK terroristic activity has greatly decreased since reaching its height of popularity in the 1920s, and it was only in the last couple decades of the twentieth century that the organization switched from a left-wing dominated group to being favored mostly by radical right-wingers.

Jim Crow laws came about once Democrats obtained control over the South in 1877, according to the American Civil Rights Union website. The “party of slavery” began to undo all the pro-African American policies the Republican Party had established while they were in power, and segregation was a top priority for Democrats.

“The South was left in the hands of the Democratic Party, which considered itself the ‘party of the white man.’ Democrats established so-called ‘redeemer governments’ throughout the region, and began to reassert white supremacy by passing laws that infringed upon the rights of blacks and enforced strict segregation.”

Jim Crow segregation laws took the lives of whites and blacks and divided them in almost every way imaginable. Blacks couldn’t go to the same schools as whites, they were forced to ride different buses, go to different libraries, prohibited from eating at the same restaurants and from being treated at the same medical facility. There were even laws that were passed that prevented a person of color from marrying a white person.

Of course, all of these segregation policies were designed to benefit white citizens, as they received only the best while black citizens were left with whatever was left over.

As the brains and motivation behind the divisive Jim Crow laws, the Democrats were the ones who didn’t want black people in their country. Unless blacks could be legally owned as property, they’d just as soon get rid of every last one of them.

From the Civil War era to the abolishment of Jim Crow, it was the same political party pushing their racist agenda. It was the Democratic Party, or as Donald Trump put it, “the party of slavery.”
