The latest WWE rumors coming out of the camp are, perhaps, the most explosive of all: Alberto Del Rio, the son of a legendary wrestler who has made a name for himself in wrestling in his own right, has put in his resignation papers, and he’s officially done with the WWE!
According to Uproxx , the basis of these WWE rumors is an “opt-out” clause in Del Rio’s contract with the company. This wasn’t a clause that he was necessarily interested in exercising until recently, when he and his real-life girlfriend, Paige, both found themselves suspended under the WWE’s nebulous “violation of wellness policy.” With this in mind, then, Del Rio has pulled out of all of his scheduled appearances with the company, and his name is no longer appearing in any WWE promotions about the upcoming matches.
Uproxx has checked with their WWE sources, and though they said that Del Rio and WWE haven’t officially parted ways, that seems to be the way things are going to go when September finally rolls around – which is when Del Rio’s contract with the WWE officially expires.

But Wrestling, Inc. , has a different take on the WWE rumors surrounding Del Rio’s fate. According to them, Del Rio was done with the WWE months ago, back in June — before he and Paige received the wellness violation suspension — and he told his lawyer to exercise his opt-out clause more than 60 days ago. Del Rio last fought in the ring for the WWE when he faced off against John Cena on August 19th’s episode of SmackDown , and with his current “free agent” status, he is free to wrestle wherever he wants in the world, and against whomever he wants.
Furthermore, Wrestling, Inc. , is suggesting that the WWE rumors about Del Rio being done with the company have nothing to do with the suspension thanks to the violation of the wellness policy, and everything to do with the fact that Del Rio is completely disillusioned with the company and the way his career has been going. Del Rio had been promised a main event push, but instead, he got lumped in with the mid-card, barely-known League of Nations. And, according to the outlet, when Del Rio had to push the “Mex-America” angle, he’d finally had enough of the WWE, and exercised his “opt-out” clause.

These WWE rumors are further substantiated by the reports being put out by WhatCulture , who claim that their WWE sources have confirmed that Del Rio isn’t returning to the company, that the terms of his departure have been finally agreed upon by both sides, and that an official announcement surrounding his departure could be made as soon as this week.
Del Rio is a former WWE World Champion, and though he has had a storied history with the company, it was not without its contentions as well. In addition to his recent suspension for the wellness policy violation, Del Rio was let go from the company until October 2015, after he beat up an office worker who made a racist remark at him. And though TNA has expressed an interest in the star, Del Rio’s financial options are much more limited than when he first left WWE. He’s burned his bridges with Lucha Underground, and lucha libre giant AAA is in financial disarray; and thus unable to offer Del Rio a financial package he would undoubtedly deserve.
