Natalie Portman On Why Female Celebrities Need To Work Together, Why She Pulled Out Of The Marvel Franchise, And Why She’s Not On Social Media

Natalie Portman, the Academy Award winning actress, has stressed the need to promote female camaraderie in the film industry. The Black Swan star has urged her female co-stars to forge friendships with each other to promote a greater female presence in the industry.

The No Strings Attached actress aired her views after she thoroughly enjoyed bonding with her female co-stars in Annihilation, her upcoming movie that also features Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson. Natalie shared that bonding with her female co-stars on the set of Annihilation enabled her to experience moments of fun and sheer joy.

However, the actress also pointed out that female celebrities have failed to forge long-lasting bonds with each other since most films have male dominated roles. Further, Natalie Portman argues that the majority of characters in present-day animated movies are male-oriented, and the lack of opportunities for actresses to work together in multiple films projects was another problem that was cited to highlight the lack of solidarity among Hollywood actresses.

According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Natalie Portman’s excitement at working alongside talented female co-stars is quite evident from her enthusiastic comments.

“When we do get the opportunity to work with other women, we always end up just like running toward each other and embracing because it’s such great energy to have.”

Natalie Portman’s comments come amid rumors that she has quit working in Marvel’s Thor movies. Both previous installments in the Thor film series featured Natalie Portman, who played the key role of Jane Foster, an astrophysicist who finds Thor on Earth. According to Vanity Fair, the rumors suggested that Natalie was deeply upset when Marvel dismissed Patty Jenkins, the female director, from the Thor 2 film project.

Before the director’s dismissal, Natalie Portman was reportedly excited at the prospect of working with a woman who was set to earn the credit of becoming Marvel’s first female director. However, Patty’s dismissal irked Natalie, who reportedly fell out with Marvel’s management team. However, the actress continued to work on the film project due to her contractual agreements.

Recently, Natalie Portman confirmed that she would not appear in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok as she is done with the film projects produced by Marvel Studios.

However, executives of Marvel Studios seem to have a different take on the entire story. Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, revealed that there was very little scope for Natalie Portman to reprise her role as Jane Foster because a large part of Thor: Ragnarok will be based in the celestial space.

Despite her desire to network with other female celebrities, Natalie Portman is one of the rare Hollywood stars who seem to have restrained themselves from being active on social media platforms. In an age where celebrities are busy promoting themselves on social media, Natalie Portman has expressed her preference to stay away from social networking sites. According to Business Insider, Natalie expressed the concern that her privacy might be invaded on social media sites.

“It feels like the last thing you want to do. It’s so much unwanted interest in your privacy that you don’t want to invite anymore.”

The Your Highness actress’s fear can be attributed to the pre-teen experience she had with inquisitive people among the media and fans. Fiercely private, the actress, who has been in the public eye since 1994, has usually managed to steer clear of the paparazzi and her party-loving associates.

Natalie confesses she might not be able to catch up with the liberal views and openness of the new generation actors who share every minute detail of their lives on the internet. However, the actress also warns about the negative impacts of social networking that may also serve to propagate cyber-bullying and negative emotions.
