Filming for Season 3 of Outlander is officially underway.
While fans wait for Droughtlander to end, Sam Heughan offered a glimpse at what Jamie will look like twenty years older.
According to International Business Times , the upcoming season of Outlander will begin with a twenty-year time jump. Fans have already seen what Claire ( Caitriona Balfe ) will look like as an older woman.
How will Heughan look twenty years down the road?
“Want to see a BTS pic of ‘Older Jamie’?” Heughan asked fans on Twitter .
Unfortunately, Heughan wasn’t permitted to actually share a picture of his character. He did, however, post a snapshot of another famous redheaded Scotsman: Austin Powers’ Fat Bastard (Mike Myers).
“Perfect,” he wrote alongside the image.
Of course, Balfe was quick to jump in on the fun and told her co-star that Claire and Jamie’s reunion wouldn’t last long if he looks like Fat Bastard.
“Claire enters print shop … Jamie turns around … Claire makes a hasty retreat,” she shared on Twitter .
Speaking of Balfe, the actress was not on set with Heughan when filming for Season 3 began.
“Hope day 1 is going well … And you aren’t all missing me too much,” she shared on Twitter .
Balfe’s absence from the set isn’t that surprising. After all, the season picks up with Jamie and Claire living separate lives centuries apart.
It will be a little bit before the two reunite in the series, so it isn’t clear when Balfe will rejoin production.
Thankfully, the separation period won’t last too long, and after their highly anticipated reunion, the couple will head off to Jamaica for another adventure.
“It’s going to be a completely different show,” Heughan stated. “Next year’s stuff is probably the most interesting, in a way. We’ve been setting it up, setting the stage, introducing these characters, and now it goes into new, different worlds.”
With Heughan carrying the majority of scenes early on in production, International Business Times is reporting that he needed a lot of rest once the first day of filming was finally over.
“First day. Season 3. Done,” he wrote on Twitter . “Zzzzzzz #goodToBeBack.”

Graham McTavish, who plays Dougal MacKenzie in the series, quickly answered Heughan.
“Sleep while you can nephew,” he shared on Twitter .
Meanwhile, Season 3 of Outlander is based on the third book by Diana Gabaldon, titled Voyager .
Along with a major time jump, the book features Jamie and Claire traveling across the ocean to exotic locations. In fact, a good chunk of the season will take place on board ships, while fans will be introduced to some new and exciting characters from the books.
This includes the likes of Lord John Grey.
At the same time, Claire is faced with a difficult choice of spending time with her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) or time traveling to be with Jamie.
Speaking of Jamie, the upcoming season is expected to pick up after the Battle of Culloden, which Jamie was not supposed to survive.
According to Chatt Sports Net , Jamie and Claire’s reunion will take place in a print shop twenty years after the events of Season 2.
Although Balfe has a reasonable excuse to be missing from the set, rumors hinted that she isn’t feeling well at the moment.
The reports of Balfe’s poor health have not been confirmed, and it looks like her absence is due to the storyline and not because of an illness.
The new season of Outlander has not been tagged with an official premiere date. However, given that production has already started, fans can expect the series to return to Starz early in 2017.
