‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Jason Momoa Teases The Return Of Khal Drogo In Season 7
It’s been a while since Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) made an appearance on Game of Thrones, but that might change when HBO’s hit fantasy drama returns for Season 7.
Momoa recently shared an interesting Instagram photo with Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, sparking immediate speculation about his return to the series.
“Cheeeeehhoooooooooo. @Guinness in Ireland. Drinking mothers milk With my brothers @captainriff dan and david. Love ya GOT greatest show on earth ALOHA DROGO,” Momoa captioned the image.
According to Time, Benioff and Weiss are in Ireland to iron out all of the pre-production work ahead of the seventh season. It isn’t clear if Momoa met with showrunners as a friend or if they discussed a cameo in the upcoming season.
Drogo died back at the end of Season 1, although he did make an appearance in the House of the Undying during Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke) vision. This opens the possibility that Drogo could make a similar appearance in the new season while Daenerys journey’s to Westeros.
Fans have already started responding to the possibility of Drogo’s return.
“Rumors are popping up that Khal Drogo is coming back to GOT in Season 7 and I will do some witch doctor chanting to make it actually happen,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“These rumors that Khal Drogo is returning to GoT give me life,” another Twitter user added.
Although Momoa’s return looks promising, there might be another explanation why he was drinking Guinness with Benioff and Weiss.
The Game of Thrones star was in Ireland touring the Guinness Brewery in Dublin in the wake of his own signature drink.
“Going into the plant,” Momoa shared on Instagram, along with a picture of him holding up a safety vest.
The actor also posted a pic on Instagram of the first glasses of his Momoa brew.
“HOLY S**T. @guinnessus the open gate brewery In Dublin. Just brewed the first ever. MOMOA brew,” he wrote alongside the image. “The Mano. The first sour. From @Guinness. Come down and try. I’m officially blown away love u.”
In addition to this new brew, Us Magazinereports that Momoa is also in Ireland for the filming of Justice League. Momoa is playing the part of Aquaman in the 2017 movie.
That being said, his involvement in the film has reportedly wrapped, which is a good indication that he stuck around to meet with Benioff and Weiss about Season 7 of Game of Thrones. That, and drinking Guinness.
Meanwhile, fans can expect a lot of twists and surprises in the upcoming season. In fact, Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, recently shared that “nothing will prepare you” for what unfolds next year.
Is there a chance that Drogo could be resurrected in Season 7?
According to Esquire, Drogo was cremated at the end of Season 1, which means he likely won’t be coming back to life anytime soon.
Instead, it is more probably that he will return in some kind of vision or flashback with Daenerys.Of course, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was brought back to life last season, so anything is possible.
Whatever ends up happening, it is very exciting that Momoa might be returning to the hit show.
To add more credence to the rumors, Momoa told Clarke a few months back that he would “see [her] soon,” and he would “see [her] in Ireland.”
Hopefully, fans will get their wish and see Drogo back in action when the show returns next year, even if it’s only in the form of flashbacks.
Season 7 of Game of Thrones is expected to arrive on HBO sometime in the summer of 2017.
