Will Rayna James Die In Season 5 Of ‘Nashville?’ Connie Britton’s Character To Be Killed Off?
Is Nashville planning to kill off Rayna James in season 5?
Nashville fans were sent into disarray after rumors began to swirl that Connie Britton’s character, who’s appeared on the drama since it first began back in 2012, could actually be killed off in the upcoming fifth season of the show, which is set to debut later this year.
According to a new report by Entertainment Weekly, Connie has allegedly only signed on for around 10 of the expected 22 episodes of the coming fifth season of the drama, which will be the first episodes to air on CMT after being canceled by ABC earlier this year.
The revelation that Connie has not yet signed on for the full series got fans seriously worried about Rayna James’s future with the show, which sent the rumor mill into overdrive that Britton’s Nashville alter ego could potentially be killed off when the show returns, while explaining why Connie is only set to star in half of the upcoming season.
Nashville fans flocked to Twitter to express their worries over the potential for Britton’s beloved character being killed off, speculating that death could potentially be the only explanation for why Connie has not signed on to appear in Nashville season 5 in its entirety.
“Scared now that they will kill Rayna off after EW article. Wouldn’t be same show if that will happen,” Twitter user @IceTear1 tweeted out after Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Britton has not yet signed on for another full season of Nashville.
“Trying to ignore all the speculations but I’m just throwing it out there that I will NEVER forgive Nashville if they kill off Rayna,” Nashville fan @TBNashie added as rumors swirled that Connie may be killed off.
TV Line also chimed on the rampant death rumors swirling around Connie Britton’s Nashville character, adding more fuel to the fire that Rayna James could be killed off when Nashville moves from ABC to CMT later this year.
“Guys… what if Nashville kills off Rayna?” the site asked fans before claiming that if Connie doesn’t end up signing on to appear in the rest of the upcoming series, death could be “the only option” to explain her absence. But while Nashville fans continue to speculate that Britton’s half season contract could spell death for Rayna James, Entertainment Weekly claimed that those behind the scenes of the country music drama are, in fact, trying to get Britton to sign on the dotted line to appear in more episodes.
“They still remain hopeful they’ll get her on board for more and that her deal is not yet final,” the site said as the death rumors swirled around Britton’s fan favorite character, noting that Connie’s co-star, Hayden Panettiere, has already agreed to star in all 22 episodes.
Reports claiming that Britton is yet to sign on for a full season of Nashville and could potentially be killed off will likely come as a shock to fans of the country music drama as the actress campaigned to get the show picked up by another network after ABC announced that it would not be moving forward with the series earlier this year.
Connie also took to Instagram after the cancellation news broke back in May, long before rumors swirled that Rayna could be killed off, where Connie gushed over her co-stars and told fans that being a part of the Nashville world had been an honor for her.
“To the amazing friends and family who are Nashville, to the cast and crew, and most of all to the fans… I’d just like to say it’s been my honor to be a part of this world, to live in it and breathe it in and try to replicate it,” Britton captioned a snap on the photo sharing site following the cancellation news.
“I am grateful for the hard work and faith of so many who dedicated themselves to creating and supporting this show,” Connie then continued of Nashville. “I am forever changed for the better. Thanks for the music.”
