George Soros Gives A Million Dollars To Democratic Super PAC
Billionaire George Soros is throwing down for President Obama big time in the coming election, with a sizable donation that analysts say could help Obama bridge some of the funding gap seen in recent months.
George Soros has donated the big bucks — $1 million — to the Democrat super PAC Priorities despite recent buzz that Soros has been displeased with President Obama’s record thus far. According to the New York Times, which obtained a statement from George Soros on his donation to the Super PAC, the billionaire donor throws his weight fully behind the President — the paper writes:
“’I fully support the re-election of President Obama,’ Mr. Soros said in the email. He had not contributed until now, he wrote, because he opposed the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision in 2010, which paved the way for super PACs and unlimited money in politics.”
The Times continues, explaining that while George Soros did oppose the laws that made it possible for men like him to make such large donations, he did not feel it was morally justified to stand by while the Romney campaign took money from donors similar to him to advance an agenda that would be disastrous for Americans who don’t have Swiss bank accounts:
“But since then, Mr. Soros wrote, he had become ‘appalled by the Romney campaign which is openly soliciting the money of the rich to starve the state of the money it needs to provide social services.’”
In addition to the money he gave the Democrat super PAC, George Soros gave $500,000 in support of two Democrats in Congress.
