NFL Rumors: Tony Romo Injury Serious, Dallas Cowboys Star Missing Up To 10 Weeks
All it takes is one injury in the NFL to turn an entire season upside down. According to CBS Sports, Tony Romo has a broken bone in his back. The franchise quarterback will miss up to 10 weeks. The fate of the Cowboys could rest in the hands of rookie Dak Prescott.
On Thursday night, Tony Romo started for the Dallas Cowboys in their preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. After taking a hit from Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril, Romo clutched his lower back. After being checked out by the medical staff, Romo was sidelined and not allowed to return.
Interestingly enough, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is refusing to rule out Tony Romo for the regular season opener against the New York Giants. Garrett is also not saying how long it would take Romo to completely recover from the back injury. Some believe that Garrett could be doing public relations.

One of the biggest concerns for the Dallas Cowboys heading into the off season was quarterback depth. The team did not want to go through what happened last season, where the Cowboys failed to make the NFL Playoffs because none of the backups were able to step up and fill in for an injured Tony Romo.
The Dallas Cowboys raised some eyebrows when they did not immediately address the quarterback position in the NFL Draft. Instead of finding a backup for Tony Romo, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones elected to go with Ezekiel Elliott, as reported by CBS Sports.
Since the team felt confident that Tony Romo was going to be healthy for the upcoming season, the Dallas Cowboys patiently waited until the fourth round of the NFL Draft to address the quarterback position. They chose former Mississippi State Bulldogs star Dak Prescott with the 135th overall selection.
If Tony Romo does indeed need 10 weeks to recover from the back injury, then the Dallas Cowboys will more than likely hand over the reigns to Dak Prescott. The 23-year-old Louisiana native has been impressive thus far in the preseason. The hope is that he can carry that over to the regular season.Through three games thus far, Dak Prescott has thrown for five touchdowns and zero interceptions. He has also shown quite a bit of poise in the pocket, especially for a rookie. Prescott looks like someone that is not afraid of being challenged by the NFL.
Kellen Moore is not an available option at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. He is suffering from a broken ankle. There is no telling yet of when he will be ready to be back on the field. Plus, even when Moore does return, the Cowboys are still not entirely sure of what he can bring to the position.
When Kellen Moore went down with his injury, Jerry Jones was adamant about going with Dak Prescott and Jameill Showers. The Dallas Cowboys refused to sign a veteran quarterback at the time, even though Nick Foles was available via free agency after being released by the Los Angeles Rams.Jerry Jones might not have a choice anymore. Preseason cuts are coming fast, so there is bound to be a veteran quarterback available in the upcoming days. Even if the team is completely comfortable with Dak Prescott as their starter, it would be nice to have someone experienced in the film room with the rookie.
The last thing that the Dallas Cowboys wanted to see was another injury to Tony Romo. Their window of opportunity is closing rapidly as their quarterback ages. The hope is that the injury is not as bad as it sounds.
