‘Days Of Our Lives’: Ken Corday Talks More Romance In September, Actors Not Enjoying Dark Storylines, And More

Days Of Our Lives is in crisis and executive producer Ken Corday realized this months ago. Long-time viewers have threatened to turn away from the soap opera. Even Corday admitted to having a tough time watching it sometimes and actors were not happy with the storylines. So, what is the plan to save Days? An interview reveals that there will be more romance in September and going back to what made fans want to watch in the first place.

While some viewers have been enjoying the endless drama and chaotic storylines on Days Of Our Lives, many other fans have not. Looking over forums and in Facebook groups reveal that many people want the show to go back to what it once was. Well, it looks like those individuals are going to get their wish.

In an interview with executive producer Ken Corday, Soap Opera Digest revealed the plan to save Days. This includes turning away from dark storylines and focusing on a lot more romance. Fans should enjoy this since it seems a lot of characters don’t have much luck in the relationship department. One of those characters is Nicole Walker, played by Arianne Zucker.

Nicole is one of those characters that has good intentions, but something always goes wrong. One thing she has always wanted was true love. Every single time she came close, the writers would crush her spirit and break her heart. Before Shawn Christian left Days Of Our Lives, his character was killed in a car accident. The two were engaged to be married.

These days, Nicole is with Deimos Kiriakis (Vincent Irizarry), as Soap Central pointed out. Even though Deimos started off as a villain, recent storylines have him seeming more reformed. He claims it is because of Nicole. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, viewers are having a hard time believing Deimos Kiriakis has really changed. If Nicole and Deimos stay together, then he should be a good guy. The last thing Nicole needs is someone else breaking her heart.

Besides more romantic storylines in September, what else did Ken Corday reveal to Soap Opera Digest? It turns out that the actors were just as unhappy with the dark storylines as fans were. When asked about his past mistakes, Corday quoted his mother and used it to compare the situation with Days Of Our Lives.

“My mother’s three greatest lessons and quote me again: You’re only as good as your last show, you have to love the medium you’re in, and the people you work with have to love doing the show. So, we were failing on all three fronts: We weren’t good, judging from our last few shows, and the people at work were not loving doing what they were doing. Though they loved working with each other and still do, because it’s the most dedicated cast and crew and staff. But be that as it may, you still have to look at the recent ratings, not the past ratings.”

In fact, every single day, members of the cast would come to Corday’s door to talk about the soap opera. It got to the point that the executive producer had to physically close his door. He said it was a waiting game and a test of endurance.

Fans will have to see what happens in September, but it sounds like there are going to be some major changes. Hopefully, they are for the better and don’t drive current viewers away.
