Camila Cabello Gushes Over Shawn Mendes, Sparks More Dating Rumors
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have continually denied the dating rumors, but the Fifth Harmony star’s latest exchange with the singer has fans willing the twosome together once again.
Camila took to Twitter to seriously gush over her “I Know What You Did Last Summer” duet partner and his new single “Mercy” on August 17 and the duo’s latest interaction got fans seriously excited on social media.
The latest Camila and Shawn gush went down after Mendes tweeted out to his more than 7 million followers that his new song would be available for download at midnight on August 18, to which Camila replied with a very sweet message of her own.
“!!!!!!!!! my fave song,” Cabello tweeted back to Mendes alongside a slew of emojis. “[You] going off on that last chorus though… people are gonna freak #MercyAtMidnight.”
Mendes’s and Fifth Harmony’s most dedicated fans commented on their interaction on the 140-character site, with many followers urging Shawn and Camila, who have constantly dodged dating rumors since they toured together with Austin Mahone in 2014, to finally get together.
“@camilacabello97 @ShawnMendes date him already [shaking my head],” @SaritahAraya tweeted to the twosome in reply, and Twitter fan wrote, @cosmiclmj wrote, “@ShawnMendes @camilacabello97 u gonna date or what?”
“@camilacabello97 @ShawnMendes thank you for this Shawmila interaction I desperately needed,” Twitter user @newnightlights then added of Mendes and Cabello’s sweet Twitter exchange.
Just last month, Shawn and Camila’s dedicated followers trended the hashtag #WeBelieveinShawmila on the 140-character site, urging the friends to start a romance.
But it seems no matter how much fans speculate about the potential for Cabello and Mendes’s relationship to become more than just friends, it sounds like the two aren’t interested in the dating game.
Back in June, Cabello spoke to Seventeen about the constant dating rumors that swirl around herself and Mendes, admitting that although she and Shawn are not dating, the reports don’t actually bother her.
“Making music with your friends is the best and we’ve had so much fun working together,” Camila told the site of working with Shawn on their 2015 duet “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
“When it comes to Shawn the speculation doesn’t really bother me because we’re just really great friends,” Camila continued.
Mendes has also done his part to shut down the dating rumors, gushing over Cabello in a recent interview with Seventeen while also flat out denying that they’re a couple.
“We aren’t dating,” Mendes told the magazine of Camila during a June cover story feature, but that certainly doesn’t mean he doesn’t love the Fifth Harmony girlbander.
“I love her and she’s so talented,” Mendes said of Camila. “She’s one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met and super, super-smart… musically, she blows my mind.”
Shawn also shot down the Camila dating rumors during an appearance on Britain’s CapitalFM radio show earlier this year, telling host Dave Berry flat out that the two are “not dating.”
“It’s fine, honestly, you can’t expect as an artist to do a collaboration with a girl and the world not think you’re dating, so it’s okay,” Mendes continued when asked about the Cabello dating reports.
“So that’s straight there,” Shawn added. “Don’t ask again.”
