Kevin Bacon Expresses Interest In Playing Freddy Krueger In Remake Of ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’
It has been known for about a year now that there is going another go at remaking or rebooting the franchise of A Nightmare On Elm Street. It’s not entirely known if it would be an all-new story or a straight remake of the original, but many questions have been raised. The biggest thing that horror fans want to know is who will play Freddy Krueger? While some names have already been thrown around, could you imagine the part going to Kevin Bacon?
Cinema Blend reported last August that a new version of A Nightmare On Elm Street was going to be made and that it was unlikely to see Robert Englund or Jackie Earle Haley back as Freddy. Englund said he wouldn’t take on that part again and even confirmed this summer that he’d like to do a cameo, but he won’t star as Freddy.
Unfortunately, it has been very quiet since news of the second remake came about, and no-one even really knows if it is going to happen at all. While fans are hoping for anything, they’re willing to grasp at everything.
Jo Blo happened to notice that something started bubbling up on social media this past week and it has to do with the beloved horror franchise. One Twitter user decided to throw it out there that she would love to see a veteran actor slide on the razor-gloved hand of Freddy Krueger. If a nightmare on elm street gets rebooted again can we please somehow get @kevinbacon as Freddy? I think he’d be fantastic.

Immediately, this tweet started to get a bit of attention from other Freddy Krueger-loving fans who thought that the idea in the head of “Bettie Toxic” wasn’t a bad one. Well, the idea started picking up more steam when the named subject in question took notice to her tweet as well.
I like the way you think Bettie https://t.co/oB5HyMo6tG

Yes, Kevin Bacon himself thought it wasn’t a bad idea for him to step into the role of the horror movie icon, but would it ever happen?
The very first thing that would need to happen is for the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street to move forward. If Bacon is going to even have a chance to play the role of Freddy Krueger, there would need to be a movie for him to star in.
Bacon is no real stranger to horror movies as he has appeared in Friday the 13th, Stir of Echoes, Tremors, Hollow Man, Flatliners, The Darkness, and even as a pedophile in recovery in The Woodsman from 2004. He has taken on some evil-ish roles in the past, but never one that has had the demonic touch of Freddy. There has been absolutely no discussion as to casting for any role in the new remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street. After the bad reviews and poor reception for the 2010 remake, many thought that there would never be another film with Freddy Krueger.
For now, the 58-year-old has simply expressed his interest in what one Twitter user said about him playing Freddy Krueger. While that may mean absolutely nothing now, it could end up coming back into play if the film ever actually gets going.Kevin Bacon as Freddy Krueger. That really doesn’t sound as bad as some may think, but they probably never thought to put the two names together into one sentence. Bacon has had his moment in the horror world before and he is certainly no stranger to taking on roles that others may find to be a bit too much. If the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street ever gets any traction under it, the creators may very well want to give a second look at the seasoned actor.
