Tom Brady passes important hurdle
The history books will right this one up and a meaningless 7-6 pre-season loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but New England Patriots QB Tom Brady this was the game where he passed a very important hurdle. In this game Brady’s surgically repaired knee was finally put to the test.
After sitting nearly all of 2008 having surgery and what not Brady needed to get out into some NFL action and test his knee. Last night the Bengals defense got to Brady twice. That means his knee took two NFL game caliber hits and Brady was able to get up and walk away from both. On his way back, that is an important step to get past.
Of course Brady did not have that great of a game. On several passes Brady was throwing the ball flat footed, instead of stepping into his passes. Many of these balls thrown from a flat footed stand failed to find their targets. Brady was injured on a play where he was stepping into his throwing motion, obviously that is going to be the next hurdle for him. He will have to trust that he can still step into his passes without risk of a severe injury.
Two pre-season games into his return to the NFL one would have to say that Brady is about where we all expected him to be.
