Trenton, New Jersey – As the $338 million Powerball jackpot winner validated his ticket, he said that he’ll use the money to help his family.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , on Sunday, state officials revealed that a single $338 million Powerball Jackpot winning ticket was sold in New Jersey. The next day they identified the exact location, saying that the winning ticket was sold at Eagle Liquors in Passaic, New Jersey.
Such a delay is not that uncommon. Many people seek professional advice and many desire privacy because their unexpected windfall may make their lives crazy, or worse.
One local resident named Teddy Jackson, who purchased 40 worthless Powerball tickets, hoped at the time that whoever came out would be a good person:
“It’s OK to buy yourself a few material things and take some trips, but $338 million can do a lot of good things. Help the people who lost their jobs, the ones who got destroyed by (Superstorm) Sandy, the folks dealing with serious medical problems … don’t become one of these stupid people who get a windfall and blow it all.”
Pedro Quezada, 44, is apparently that type of guy. The immigrant from the Dominican Republic told reporters in Spanish that he intends on helping his family. The Powerball jackpot ticket winner described his priorities as first being health, then family, by saying, “‘‘No. 1 is your health, because if you don’t have that, the rest doesn’t matter. No. 2 is your family. You take care of your own and live the rest of your life in peace. That’s all anyone can do.”
If Pedro Quezada chooses a lump sum payout, he would receive $221 million, or about $152 million after taxes. It’s the fourth-largest jackpot in Powerball history.
