Before Finn Balor was drafted to Raw by Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley during the WWE Draft, there was some concern from WWE officials that Balor’s push could be derailed by Vince McMahon becoming complacent and unimpressed with him. All the worries of the WWE Universe vanished when Finn Balor took WWE by storm during his Raw debut last week.
During the first edition of Raw after the brand split , Finn Balor defeated Cesaro, Kevin Owens, and the United States Champion Rusev in a Fatal Four Way match. After that, he got a shocking win over Roman Reigns in the main event of the night and catapulted himself into a match with Seth Rollins at WWE Summerslam to determine the first WWE Universal Champion.
Now, the WWE Universe is wondering if it will be Balor or Rollins who will become Raw’s Universal Champion. Rollins was the first draft pick for Raw, and he’s a former two-time WWE Champion, so he is the favorite. However, Balor is red-hot and was the longest reigning NXT Champion in the brand’s history. It’s a toss up, but it looks like WWE officials have made up their minds.
According to a report from CageSideSeats , WWE officials are planning for Finn Balor to pull off the upset against Rollins at WWE Summerslam and become the first WWE Universal Champion in WWE history. It’s a very bold move to push Balor to the top of Raw this fast, but the decision has the backing of both Triple H and Vince McMahon, according to the source.
If WWE pulls the trigger on Finn Balor defeating Seth Rollins later this month at WWE Summerslam , that decision could make him the top face in the entire company. Since the WWE Universal Championship will be the world title for Raw, which is the flagship show of WWE, that championship will quickly become the richest prize in the game, even with the WWE title’s history.
Finn Balor becoming the WWE Universal Champion along with the debut of “The Demon” at WWE Summerslam is going to be an epic match for the WWE history books. It’s almost a foregone conclusion that Balor vs. Rollins will be the main event of the PPV because of the stakes and Finn Balor’s coronation as the “next big thing” for WWE.
The truth is that WWE officials are the powers that would derail Finn Balor’s push if he were to be built up to the match with Rollins at WWE Summerslam only to lose. During his Raw debut, Balor defeated four of the top talents in WWE today. That includes Roman Reigns, who was untouchable as “The Guy” in WWE a little over a month ago. Reigns remains in the doghouse and is getting involved in the United States title picture with Rusev, so WWE wanted to build up another face as fast as possible.
If WWE’s intentions aren’t clear enough from Finn Balor’s booking, they recently did an interview with him on WWE.com , and it was revealed that there are some people calling Balor “the face of WWE’s future.” A lot of people have been saying that within WWE for a long time, but it’s now clear that WWE officials waited so long to bring Finn Balor to the main roster from NXT because they knew he was destined to be a superstar for WWE.They knew Finn needed to be pushed to the moon immediately.
If WWE officials follow through on their plans for Balor, WWE Summerslam 2016 will be remembered as night Finn Balor won the WWE Universal Championship and became the biggest star in wrestling. If any fans within the WWE Universe were worried about Vince McMahon derailing his push, just remember that he approved the decision like everyone else.
