‘WWE NXT’ Results: Bobby Roode Debuts During Build-Up To ‘NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II’

Bobby Roode made his first official appearance on WWE NXT this week. Receiving a very warm welcome from the NXT Universe at Full Sail University, it wasn’t long before Roode let the crowd know how he truly felt. Having crossed paths with Austin Aries and NXT Champion Samoa Joe while they were all part of TNA’s roster, he’s definitely the type of star that fans want to see at an event like TakeOver: Brooklyn II.

Already set for Brooklyn II at the Barclays Center is Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Championship. While Joe makes an appearance this week to help promote the TakeOver main event, many questions remain about the rest of the lineup. While Austin Aries vs. No Way Jose will likely be added to the card, could Bobby Roode or the returning Hideo Itami get booked for a match on August 20?

Bayley still has the contractual right to a rematch for the NXT Women’s Championship. In recent weeks, NXT programming has tiptoed around the issue of just when that will happen. On this week’s episode, Bayley and Asuka exchange words face to face before Bayley gets a very close look at Asuka in action. The contract signing for their match at TakeOver is scheduled for next week’s WWE NXT.

Note: The following contains the full results and spoilers for the episode of WWE NXT that first aired on the WWE Network on August 3.

Hideo Itami Defeated Sean Maluta

Despite failing to get out of the first round of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic tournament, Sean Maluta impressed the company enough that he was given a relatively big match on NXT. Marking the in-ring NXT TV return of Hideo Itami, it will be interesting to see how NXT’s first big signing out of Japan fits into the picture as TakeOver: Brooklyn II approaches.

TM-61 Challenges The Revival

NXT Tag Team Champions The Revival cut another backstage promo claiming to be “easily” the best tag team in NXT. They were quickly interrupted by TM-61, who challenged Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson to a title match. As The Revival were attempting to talk their way out of the situation, Johnny Gargano, and Tomasso Ciampa joined the conversation. A non-title match was set up for later in the show between TM-61 and the champs.

Samoa Joe Attacks Mojo

Moments after the match between Mojo Rawley and Chris Atkins got under way, NXT Champion Samoa Joe attacked them both, sending a message to NXT Commissioner Steven Regal and the No. 1 contender Shinsuke Nakamura. Despite causing a “no contest” finish and repeatedly attacking the recently-drafted Rawley, Joe didn’t get a response from Regal or Nakamura.

Bayley Promo

As Bayley was responding to a question backstage about whether she felt prepared to face Asuka again, the NXT Women’s Champion interrupted the interview and invited Bayley to watch her upcoming match from ringside.

Asuka Defeated Aliyah

Bayley sat with Corey Graves and Tom Phillips, intending to provide guest commentary, when Asuka set a folding chair at the end of the entry way, challenging Bayley to get an even closer look. Bayley stood at ringside, knocking over Asuka’s chair in the process. Asuka took home an easy victory over relative newcomer Aliyah, showing no mercy as she played mind games with Bayley.

Oney Lorcan Promo — Ember Moon Vignette

Oney Lorcan is the NXT rookie that scored an upset victory in his debut match against Tye Dillinger on WWE NXT last month. He cut a promo about needing to go back to his roots, although he didn’t give any real indication of what that might mean. His promo was followed by a vignette for Ember Moon, who will apparently make her NXT debut at TakeOver: Brooklyn II.

Bobby Roode’s WWE NXT Debut

Roode is just the latest superstar with a firmly established name to make his WWE debut as part of the NXT brand. While he was spotted at NXT TakeOver: Dallas and has appeared at a few NXT house shows, this was his official WWE NXT debut. He was incredibly over from the moment his music hit and teased being a face during the first few minutes of his promo. However, his dialogue took a sharp turn when he started talking about how much better he was than the members of the NXT Universe. Who will be the first NXT Superstar to challenge the former TNA World Heavyweight Champion?

The Revival Defeated TM-61

Making a habit of listing the teams they’ve defeated in NXT, The Revival added TM-61 to that list in the main event of this week’s WWE NXT. After the match, their celebratory tirade was interrupted by Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa. Although the match wasn’t made official, it seems clear that The Revival will be defending the NXT Tag Team Championship against Gargano and Ciampa at NXT TakeOver on August 20.

These results have been confirmed by WWE’s official NXT results page.
