Louis Tomlinson And Simon Cowell Creating A Female One Direction That’s ‘Unbelievably Good’
Though the popularity of the mega-popular boy band One Direction has been waning since the departure of heartthrob Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Simon Cowell are rumored to be working together to launch a new female version of the band.
According to Daily Record, Louis Tomlinson recently took the idea to Simon Cowell, the X Factor judge who originally formed One Direction. Interested fans will be happy to learn that most of the work to create the female One Direction has already been completed. Louis Tomlinson reportedly set up his own record label imprint under Sony, and the members of the new girl band have already been assembled. When Tomlinson approached his former boss, Simon Cowell was just as excited about the project as Louis was.
“[Louis Tomlinson] has just signed a deal with us as an imprint of a record label. He has a new artist who is going to be released this year, I hope, who are incredible,” Cowell said.
“He has got fantastic instincts. He told me about this idea I would say a year or 18 months ago. He stuck with it. They are unbelievably good. They are as good as I have ever heard. I think he has got a real knack for this.”
Though it’s not certain which girls will be part of the female One Direction, Louis Tomlinson has already been arranging private performances to promote them to producers like Cowell. The girls are also already deep into the rehearsal process.
“We heard the band last night, we are going to see them in rehearsals next week,” said Simon.
Louis Tomlinson recently teased that it was a “BIG day” for the girl band on Twitter.

While the band has been called the female One Direction, Louis Tomlinson plans to give them their own unique name, though it hasn’t been revealed, either. Older rumors claim the band members will play instruments instead of simply singing like the original One Direction, but this has not been confirmed.
Cowell could be thrilled about the idea of a female One Direction because of how suddenly the original boy band fell apart. Not long after Zayn Malik left the group, the boys of One Direction announced they’d be taking an indefinite hiatus to focus on respective solo albums and side projects. According to Glamour Magazine, while Louis Tomlinson is focusing on signing new artists and producing records, his buddies Liam Payne and Niall Horan are both slated to release solo material. Payne decided to sign on with a record company that rivals One Direction’s, which proved to be a controversial decision with the man who made him famous.
“It is a bit annoying if I am honest with you,” Simon Cowell said. “Mainly because it is a another label who has now got your artist who you worked with for so many years.”
Louis Tomlinson’s bold move to make his own label surprisingly didn’t frustrate Cowell. Meanwhile, Niall Horan remained loyal to Cowell’s company, Syco Records, for his solo effort. And star One Direction member Harry Styles went an entirely different direction following the band’s temporary split, landing his first Hollywood role in a Christopher Nolan film, Dunkirk. But Styles isn’t committing full time to acting, because he is also rumored to be starting a solo career, and reportedly signed a three-album contract with Colombia records — which also worked with One Direction in the past.
