Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Is The Parody Video You Need To See Today

Quentin Tarantino’s Suicide Squad is generating some buzz across social media ahead of the release of the real film this coming Friday (August 5). It’s a parody video from Loot Crate Productions, the company behind the Loot Crate box subscription service. Loot Crate partners with movie studios, game companies, comic publishers, and others to deliver mystery boxes to subscribers, and it just so happens to have a pretty fun YouTube presence as well.

The channel is no stranger to parody, having produced the Game of Thrones parody of Frozen’s “Let it Go” and a Power Rangers parody video, but it seems that not many would argue against Quentin Tarantino’s Suicide Squad being their best work to date. The video takes the basic premise of Suicide Squad — the assembling of a group of super-villains — and replaces characters with famous characters from Quentin Tarantino movies like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, and Django Unchained, though the cast is largely made up of these movies’ heroes.

The parody trailer plays like a trailer from Grindhouse, the double-feature movie project Tarantino unleashed on audiences nearly a decade ago with filmmaker buddy Robert Rodriguez. The experience was made up of Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof, with a handful of faux trailers thrown into the mix, including one for Machete, which would later go on to become an actual movie (with one of two planned sequels already having been released, no less).

In Grindhouse fashion (a phrase that could be attributed to other Tarantino films, as well), Quentin Tarantino’s Suicide Squad promises over-the-top thrills and plenty of the red stuff. Unfortunately, it’s not real. While many are very much looking forward to the actual Suicide Squad movie, many might be more excited about a Tarantino mash-up of this type (provided, of course, that he directed it and it featured the original actors playing the characters at hand).

Speaking of said characters, Quentin Tarantino’s Suicide Squad features Pulp Fiction’s Jules (as originally played by Samuel L. Jackson), Kill Bill’s The Bride (aka Beatrix Kiddo, and as originally played by Uma Thurman), Kill Bill’s Gogo Yubari (as originally played by Chiaki Kuriyama), Lieutenant Aldo Raine from Inglourious Basterds (as originally portrayed by Brad Pitt), and Django of Django Unchained (as originally portrayed by Jamie Foxx). Perhaps the best part is the presence of Tarantino himself (ok, it’s not really him) leading the characters into their mission. As you may know, Tarantino does indeed often like to appear in his own films.

Quentin Tarantino’s Suicide Squad, as great as it is, could perhaps benefit even more from the inclusion of characters like Reservoir Dogs’ Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen), Seth Gecko (George Clooney) of From Dusk Till Dawn fame, Death Proof’s Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), Jackie Brown’s Jackie Brown, and The Hateful Eight’s Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), but really there are just too many great Tarantino characters to cram into one movie (or even parody trailer).

Of course, if Quentin Tarantino really directed Suicide Squad, it would be nothing like this, but there is no doubt that he would have knocked it out of the park (with all due respect to David Ayer, who actually did direct it). If probably won’t surprise you to know that while Tarantino hasn’t ever taken on a comic book movie project, he has considered it in the past. He told Nerdist that he once game some serious thought to directing a Luke Cage movie. That character, of course, is about to get his own series on Netflix.
