‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Spoilers: Possible Plans For Season 2 Bring Darker Tone And More ’80s References

It has been just over two weeks since the Netflix original series Stranger Things was released for the world to see, and it has become a cult phenomenon. Fans have binge-watched the entire first season which was just eight episodes, and they’re already begging for more. Well, the Duffer brothers are talking about Season 2, and it looks as if things are going to get a bit darker and the ’80s references are bound to continue.

The series hadn’t been available on Netflix for more than a day before fans started calling for a second season, and it was soon confirmed. The 1983 science-fiction thriller takes place in Indiana and revolves around the disappearance of a 12-year-old boy and the special young girl that helps his friends and family try to find him.

Spoiler Alert – Please note that there are possible spoilers ahead for the first season of Stranger Things. If you have not yet watched it, you may want to stop reading now.

Moviefone reported that the creators of the series are looking to go in a different direction for Season 2 and that it’s going to be darker as well. The first season had its terrifying moments and a somber tone, but things are about to take a turn further into the “Upside-Down.”

The reaction to the series has been incredibly positive and received rave reviews from both critics and fans. Twin brothers Ross and Matt Duffer created the series and recently spoke with Collider about how great things have been so far and what’s to come in the future.

One thing that some fans have already worried about is that the second season of Stranger Things would be an entirely new story. Fans have already fallen in love with Eleven and Mike and every other character on the show. Luckily, Matt Duffer promises that there will be new characters coming in, but the story will still revolve around Will and his family.

“Yeah, we would introduce some new characters, but follow this group. We fell in love with the kids and all of our actors, so we want to stay with them. And now we know what they’re capable of. I know that I could throw David Harbour the craziest fastball, and he’ll hit it out of the park. I think we’ll have a lot of fun, if they let us do it.”

That being said, the Duffer brothers aren’t planning on taking Stranger Things out of the ’80s, and that only means more awesome references. If you’re someone that grew up in the ’80s, then you very likely caught a number of them, but there are so many that it’s difficult to spot them all.

The video below was put together to show some of the references and their counterparts from movies and TV shows of the past. Believe it, though, that this isn’t all of them, and there are so many more to find throughout all eight episodes.

Knowing that the series is going to continue with the same family in Season 2, it only makes sense that more ’80s references are on the way. It’s not like the Duffer brothers don’t have plenty of material to work with, and now they will have at least eight more episodes to give the fans.

One thing that is concerning is the future of some of the cast members on Stranger Things, and that is due to what happened in Season 1. For anyone that watched the series, you probably became quite attached to Eleven and can’t imagine the series continuing on without her, but…she’s gone, right?

At the end of the season finale, Sheriff Hopper was seen placing Eggo waffles and some more food in a box out in the woods. It doesn’t look like fans have seen the last of the very powerful young girl who just wanted a “friend.”

Stranger Things is everything that a fan of the ’80s is supposed to love, and the series is done in such a perfect manner. Not only did it bring back a lot of nostalgic feelings, but it was a great story all on its own with an amazing script, fantastic effects, and a stellar cast. Season 2 will be heading to Netflix and things will have to change a bit, but there is little doubt that a darker tone and format change will cause the series to be anything but incredible.
