Matt Damon: The ‘Jason Bourne’ Star Continues Fueling The Flames With Jimmy Kimmel Over Late Night Feud
While the feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West has taken over the pop culture headlines this month, Jason Bourne star Matt Damon continues to prolong his years-long feud with late night host Jimmy Kimmel. The ball was in Damon’s court when he commented about his rift with Kimmel during a recent interview.
Damon did a SiriusXM Town Hall interview on July 29 as part of his promotional tour for Jason Bourne, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Someone from the audience questioned Damon about the fake feud with Kimmel, and the actor didn’t think twice about his response.
“I don’t see anything funny about it. I’ve spent thousands and thousands and thousands of hours of my life sitting backstage waiting to come on and every single night…he said time management was his problem, but somehow it doesn’t get in the way of him letting other people on the show with plenty of time.”
Damon did an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, July 25, to attend another couples therapy session with Kimmel to try to work out their issues. The Martian actor also mentioned in the Town Hall interview that he even got best friend Ben Affleck involved in the comedic feud, which the Batman v Superman star gladly participated during the past few years.
The Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon fight first started during Kimmel’s first year of hosting ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. The late night host didn’t have A-list celebrities appearing on his show at the time, so Kimmel started an inside joke of announcing an apology to Damon for bumping him off the show most nights due to running out of air time, even though Damon was never scheduled to appear.
Kimmel would continue with the random apologies to Damon on Live, until the Jason Bourne actor finally was booked as a guest on the show in September, 2006. On that specific show, Kimmel did a recap of all the times he supposedly bumped Damon, which took so long that he had to actually bump Damon’s guest spot that night. Damon threw a mock-tantrum, which sparked the fake feud between him and Kimmel.
The duo continued their feud over the years with pranks started by both of them on Kimmel’s show, including getting other celebrities in on the jokes.
Last February, Ben Affleck was one of the guests on Kimmel’s Oscars after-show, which was broadcast live on ABC. Matt Damon used that opportunity to get his best friend to sneak him into the show in one of the more hilarious pranks that has happened since the feud began.
Affleck donned a suit that was big enough to fit him and Damon, who hid inside the suit with the support of a stunt harness. With the show being broadcasted live, Damon caught Kimmel by surprised when he popped his head out of Affleck’s suit.
Damon talked about that incident during his SiriusXM interview, and mentioned how he got concerned that Affleck was not going to make it across the stage.
“I’m like, ‘Are you alright dude? And he’s like, ‘[cough] I’m good [cough].’ And then they’re like, ‘Okay Ben, 45 seconds,’ and he goes, ’45 seconds?’ So if you ever watch that interview again, he gets out there and I get out and then throughout the course of his interview, he’s sweating more and more because it just hit him, like, he did basically a two-minute power squat.”
Kimmel has yet to comment on Damon’s latest interview concerning their feud, but most likely, he is busy thinking up the next prank to get even with the Hollywood actor.
Jason Bourne, the fifth installment of the Bourne film series, opens in theaters on July 29.
