Sneak Peek Of ‘Justice League Dark’ Animated Film Confirms Matt Ryan’s Return As Constantine
The latest release from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is the animated film version of Batman: The Killing Joke, and it is bringing a ton of controversy with it. DC Comics still has a lot of hope for it, though, and now, the attention is moving on to their next big release. Justice League Dark will be released sometime this fall, but the first sneak peek has been revealed, and it shows that Matt Ryan is getting another crack at portraying Constantine.
This time, the only difference is that he won’t be the live-action version as he was on the NBC series, but he will voice the animated character.

As reported by io9, the animated extra features for Justice League Dark have leaked online and maybe it wasn’t that much of a leak. If they had actually been “leaked” accidentally, it’s hard to think that DC and Warner Bros. would allow them to stay online, but they’re still there.
The team of Justice League Dark made their initial debut when DC Comics began “The New 52” back in 2011, and they have developed quite a following. While some may try to associate them with the Justice League team of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and others, they’re actually quite different.
By the look of the animated special feature that has been leaked online, it now seems as if the team that will be presented in the film is now known. It looks like fans will get to see this more paranormal superhero team of the following.
- Etrigan the Demon/Jason Blood (Voiced by Ray Chase)
- Swamp Thing (Unknown)
- Constantine (Matt Ryan)
- Black Orchid
- Zatanna (Camilla Luddington)
- Boston Brand (Nicholas Turturro)
It seems as if Batman will be making a big appearance in the Justice League Dark, and he will once again be voiced by Jason O’Mara. Other members of the Justice League will make themselves known as well with Superman, Wonder Woman, and the John Stewart version of Green Lantern showing up.
The leaked featurette doesn’t really say much about the film itself, but it does give more of an introduction to the team and its members. Seeing as how the team is made up primarily of supernatural/paranormal-associated beings, they will handle a job that appears to be out of the reach of the Justice League.Fans are really jumping onto this project already with the inclusion of Constantine and having him voiced by Matt Ryan. In the featurette, he speaks about wanting to be a part of the film and how important it was to him.
“I really wanted to jump into this project to play Constantine in a different context…around some of the iconic characters are in the DC ‘dark’ world.”
Constantine lasted just one season on NBC despite having quite the cult following. Ryan did show up in a fourth season episode of Arrow after the series was cancelled and he went back to the role that fans loved so much.
The Digital HD, Blu-ray, and DVD releases of Justice League Dark are coming sometime this fall.
Justice League Dark is going to be a great production all on its own and it is going to be something different for the casual comic book fan. For those that may feel as if Batman: The Killing Joke is just too dark and sadistic for them, they can turn to this animated film for something a bit lighter but still different. Having Matt Ryan returning as Constantine and providing his voice is a great touch and will bring in even more viewers in a smart move by DC and Warner Bros.
