Is The Joker In ‘Suicide Squad’ Actually Jason Todd? – Director Speaks Out On Interesting Theory
There has been a lot of controversy laid on the shoulders of Warner Bros. and DC Comics lately due to the animated film version of Batman: The Killing Joke. The studios are sincerely hoping that that will die out soon and people can enjoy the film and the August release of Suicide Squad. As the latter prepares to hit theaters in less than two weeks, the director of the film is now speaking out about a popular theory regarding Jared Leto’s version of The Joker and Jason Todd.
Yes, for those wondering, this is an actual rumor and one that has been going around for quite some time now. Many have wondered since Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters and a lot of fans actually believe that Leto’s version of The Joker is none other than the former Robin – Jason Todd.

Suicide Squad director David Ayer was talking with WSVN-TV about the release of his film set for August 5, and the conversation got to that of rumors. Interviewer Chris Van Vliet asked him what was one of the craziest rumors he had heard while filming Suicide Squad.
Ayer said that one of the rumors he heard the most was that Jason Todd, the second Robin who later went on to become the Red Hood, was actually The Joker. Well, he’s finally spoken out about that rumor and set the record straight.
“It ain’t the case. He’s not!”
Well, that does it.
This is a rumor that came into existence with the release of the first trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. In that trailer, there was a quick showing of a Robin costume which was spray-painted with some graffiti coming straight from the hand of The Joker himself.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a Warner Bros. Studio tour did confirm that the suit in the movie belonged to Jason Todd. The Joker did spray paint the suit and it made a lot of people think that the happenings in “Batman: A Death in the Family” will finally be brought to the big screen. That may end up happening in the future, but it won’t be incorporated into the storyline that comes about in Suicide Squad. It’s quite possible that there will be something about The Joker’s past being brought into the spotlight in the film, but his name won’t end up being that of Jason Todd.
One thing to think about is that Ayer would not give away any spoilers for his own film, and he’s not going to let the world know what will happen in Suicide Squad before viewing it. Should Jared Leto’s version of The Joker eventually be revealed as Jason Todd, then he could simply smile and say he was “joking.”As Screen Rant reported, maybe that tattoo of the robin on his right bicep is just a tribute to the former partner of Batman. Only time will tell if the DCEU is going in that direction.
Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 5 with a gigantic cast of characters including Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, and a lot more.
So, the theory of Jared Leto’s version of The Joker actually being Jason Todd is one that has been totally squashed and simply won’t end up being true. David Ayer didn’t have a lot to say about it and simply wanted to force the theory to die before it got any bigger. He wants people to focus on Suicide Squad and enjoy it for what it is without having the focus on something that won’t end up becoming a reality at all.
