O Canada, indeed! Summer is often an excellent time to investigate new shows for a good binge, and Murdoch Mysteries fits the bill perfectly. Originally televised on ITV in Canada and the U.K., Americans can now watch all nine seasons of Murdoch Mysteries on Acorn TV, with a Murdoch Mysteries Christmas Special streaming starting today. Based on the books of Maureen Jennings, Murdoch Mysteries follows the career of Detective William Murdoch around the turn of the 20th century in Toronto, Canada. But Detective Murdoch introduces fans to many modern scientific methods that are used today in shows like CSI as he yearns for new ways to thwart criminals.
Though the U.S. gives viewers a wide array of great shows to watch, there is a certain excitement in stepping outside of the mold to discover what is available in other countries, especially those with programming in English, and there is no better example than Doc Martin , with all seasons available on Acorn TV, and a few seasons on Netflix, according to the Inquisitr. Martin Clunes who plays Doc Martin is similar to Hugh Laurie on House , but funnier and without the drug addiction. Doc Martin has such a cult following in the United States that Sigourney Weaver sought out to be a guest star on the recent season of Doc Martin .

Samantha Bond, who played Lady Rosamund, sister of Lord Grantham of Downton Abbey , will be featured in the new season of Murdoch Mysteries , along with actors Peter Keleghan, Peter Stebbings, Alex Paxton-Beesley, Daniel Maslany, and Bea Santos, all making guest appearances. Executive Producer Christina Jennings says new and exciting storylines await Detective Murdoch and Dr. Julia Ogden.
“The series returns with debutantes vying for the hand of Toronto’s most eligible bachelor — think The Bachelor in 1904! — and there is a killer on the loose. At the same time, Toronto is thrown into chaos by the Great Fire. It will be a great launch to a great season.”
