Reese Witherspoon Puts $10 Million Ojai Ranch On The Market
Reese Witherspoon just listed her luxurious Ojai Ranch in California on the real estate market for $10 million. In the days following the break-up between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, the Legally Blonde star opened the doors of the rustic retreat to her Water for Elephants co-star. The Twilight heartthrob reportedly enjoyed the quiet sanctuary the sprawling Ojai ranch provided for several weeks after news of Stewart’s affair broke.
Last year, Witherspoon married her second husband, Jim Toth, on the luxurious property. The mansion is situated in a rural area north of Los Angeles. The actress purchased the home from interior designer, Kathryn Ireland, in 2008, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Elle Décor magazine featured the home in its September issue, the Daily Mail reports. The leading lady gave no hint of her plans to list the Ojai property during the tour.
Witherspoon had this to say when she allowed a magazine journalist inside the home:
“When you buy a beautiful piece of art, you don’t really own it. You’re just the caretaker. It reminds me of growing up in Tennessee, where we spent all day outside. I wanted my children to have that experience, to get muddy and hang out with the animals. It’s meditative and restorative. As soon as I drive through the gate, I relax. The phone isn’t ringing, you can’t access email.”
The actress and her family reportedly spend many weekends and vacations at the rural estate, which includes a barn, horse paddock, stone fireplace, swimming pool, and guest cottages.
The mansion was built in 1923 as stables for Edward Drummond Libbey and was designed by accomplished architect, Wallace Neff. The 1937 fantasy drama, Lost Horizon, was filmed on the property, using what was then referred to as the Libbey Ranch, as a location for Shangri-La.
