Will Smith Shares Story About What It Was Like Working With Method Actor Jared Leto

Will Smith recently opened up about what it’s like being part of one of the most anticipated hits of the year. He also talked about what it was like to work with method actor Jared Leto on the set of Suicide Squad. It sounds like Leto did not hold back when it was time to get his castmates revved up to shoot the film.

“This is like the first time where like I’m cool for real. The Suicide Squad, I don’t know what it is, but something about this idea and something about this cast has really captured something,” Will Smith told Comic-Con fans.

Smith also revealed that he sincerely freaked out one day when Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in the film, received a strange gift by way of an even stranger man. Smith even went so far as to call security, but luckily, he figured out what was going on.

“Jared was really the first person that like really kicked it into another gear. So we were rehearsing. He was working separate, so the Joker was working separate. So one day there’s a knock on the door, and this guy walks in, this tough looking guy walks in, he says, ‘I’ve got a message from Mr. J.’ And he puts a box down on the table in front of Margot. He says, ‘That’s a gift from Mr. J, in honor of your relationship.’ I was like, oh Mr. J, okay, okay. So Margot starts to open the box, and there was a note, and it was from ‘the Joker.’ Listen, listen, I was playing Deadshot, but if I had had pearls on, I would have clutched them! So for the whole movie, that’s the kind of stuff Jared was doing. He really kicked everybody into another level,” Smith explained.

As far as what was in the box? A live rat.

Smith says that his role in the film has finally made him “cool” in the eyes of his kids — at least for the next few months. Hopefully, things have calmed down in the media regarding his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith. The duo have been battling rumors for years now that they are divorcing, and last year Will took to Facebook against his better judgement to address the stories, saying he was fed up with all the lies.

“Under normal circumstances, I don’t usually respond to foolishness. (Because it’s contagious) But, so many people have extended me their ‘deepest condolences’ that I figured, What the hell…I can be foolish, too! So, in the interest of redundant, repetitious, over & over-again-ness…Jada and I are…NOT GETTING A DIVORCE!!!!!!!!!!!! I promise you all–if I ever decide to divorce my Queen–I SWEAR I’ll tell you myself. Dumb people should have to wear scarlet D’s,” Smith wrote.

Every now and then, the couple will individually address the rumors that have been swirling around their relationship for years now. Jada told Howard Stern last year that she and Will have trust between them, something that is necessary for her.

“You’ve got to trust who you’re with. And at the end of the day, I’m not here to be anybody’s watcher. I’m not his watcher. He’s a grown man,” Jada told Stern.

According to the actress and musician, every marriage goes through changes and bumps, and as soon as the outside world gets wind of anything different, they automatically jump to the conclusion that a divorce is looming over the horizon when actually, nothing could be further from the truth.

“Marriages go through shifts. And relationships go through shifts because in life, things shift. So people are automatically like, ‘What’s going on? They must be getting a divorce.’ Well, no. But when people feel those shifts and there’s a mystery, they have to fill it with something,” she says.
