Breaking Down The ‘Justice League’ Trailer And Looking For Easter Eggs

At the San Diego Comic-Con 2016 on Saturday, Warner Bros. opened a whole new chapter in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) by revealing the first trailer for Justice League. Fans in attendance were blown away by it as was social media once it was released online. Now, there is still a long time to wait until its release, but many have already found some Easter Eggs in the trailer and begun analyzing them as well.

Believe it or not, there really isn’t that much in the new trailer by way of Easter Eggs, but there are some interesting little tidbits to find if you look closely enough. Many fans are already thrilled about what is coming with the Justice League as it is a much lighter tone than the entire Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice film.

One of the first things to notice is that Aquaman (Jason Momoa) is going to have a huge presence in the film and there are even some subtle jabs at the character from DC Comics. Two times in the trailer, Bruce Wayne speaks to him and references how he can “talk to fish.”

Fans have seen a Motherbox or two as shown in Dawn of Justice and the additional footage which will lead to Steppenwolf. He is still rumored to be the villain in Justice League, as reported by Cinema Blend some time ago, but there is yet another Motherbox present and this one is being buried many years ago.

It’s obvious from the looks of things that this Motherbox was hidden in the ground a very long time ago, but is it the same one that Lex Luthor found? Is it a different one from that which Cyborg was created in the security cam footage from Dawn of Justice?

Speaking of Cyborg (Ray Fisher), he gets a good bit of camera time in the trailer as well. Obviously, there will be a flashback of some sort as he’s shown before having his robotic features and also wearing a letterman’s jacket.

No, he’s not in high school like the age he is in the DC Comics. This version of Cyborg is a little bit older and actually attends GCU – Gotham City University.

Barry Allen’s lab/room/apartment has a lot more in it than Bruce Wayne sitting in his second-favorite chair. Looking around, there are plenty of books that he has been reading and a couple of sketches of suits for his alter-ego, The Flash (Ezra Miller)…suits that include the golden wings on the side of his head. Some fans had been worried that they would be absent from the his new suit.

Speaking of Barry’s lab, there is one true and interesting Easter Egg shown on a computer screen which can be seen over the shoulder of Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Cinema Blend pointed out that Barry apparently likes to watch Rick and Morty from Adult Swim.

Interestingly enough, the episode has Rick and Summer becoming strong enough to take on the Devil and beat him up. This could be a sign of things to come in Justice League or it could really just be a fun throw-in from Warner Bros.

Now, the team is really coming together but there is obviously no sign or mention of Superman (Henry Cavill) anywhere in the trailer for obvious reasons. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is prominently featured along with Batman.

There is even a moment where four members – Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, and Cyborg – walk together into a room. There is no sign of Aquaman at all, and one has to wonder if writer/director Zack Snyder still has intentions of there being a seventh member of the team.

Remember that tweet from Zack Snyder last year? Some still wonder if he’s going to “Unite The Seven” and bring in Green Lantern or someone else as the seventh member of the Justice League, but only time will tell on that one.

This trailer was the first real look at Justice League with extended footage of Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg. It should not be surprising that everyone already has their own breakdown of the trailer and that numerous Easter Eggs have already been found. So much more is coming and will be shown to the fans before it hits theaters on November 17, 2017, but the fun brought forth in the first trailer is enough to amp up the excitement to huge levels.
