‘Once Upon A Time’ Panel Teases A Purely Evil Queen For Season 6
This article may contain spoilers for season 6 of Once Upon a Time.
The Once Upon a Time panel made its usual appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and the guests were more than willing to taunt fans with teasers for the upcoming sixth installment of the ABC series. While much of the news revolved around Regina Mills, the Once Upon a Time character portrayed by Lana Parrilla, and her newly separated personality, there was also news surrounding the casting of new characters and the recasting of a returning favorite. As is usually the case with the series, the Once Upon a Time panel fed our need for the magic and intrigue of the live action faerie tale.
Once Upon A Time Brings On A “Purely Evil” Queen
When Once Upon a Time left off, the Evil Queen had been separated from Regina Mills (Parrilla), at which time she claimed the Dragon Heart for her own and declared war on those who would oppose her. It was a tense moment on which the series ended its Season 5 finale, so fans have been clamoring to learn more about what might become of the Evil Queen and Regina when the next installment picks up. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that we haven’t really seen a truly evil queen, at least not on the scale of that which will be seen in Once Upon a Time‘s new season.
“The Evil Queen is slightly different than she used to be,” Parrilla revealed to SDCC audiences. “She is now without a conscience so she is pure evil and a lot of fun.”
Where does that leave Regina? Ms. Parrilla adds that her long-time character has really evolved through the past five years and now she’s genuinely trying to do better, to be a better person. Things have changed for Regina, especially because she’s no longer alone.
For those fans concerned that the loss of her evil half means that they’ll see a more demure, overly sweet Regina, fear not. Ms. Parrilla reveals that some parts of the Once Upon a Time character’s personality just can’t be washed away.
“Regina’s still sassy. She’s not going to lose her sass,” Parrilla said. “She’s sarcastic and that’s what we love about her. She’s not going to lose that.”
Lana says she’s hopeful that Regina’s bond with Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) will continue to strengthen, now that she’s been freed from her evil half.

E! News shared the exciting revelation made by Once Upon a Time showrunners Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis that both Aladdin and Jafar would be making their way back into the Season 6 story arc of the series. Those beginning moments of Season 6 reveal Aladdin, who is to be played by Deniz Akdeniz. Deniz is most notably remembered for his roles in I, Frankenstein and The Water Diviner, which were both 2014 films.
Joining Aladdin, Jafar will also be making a return to the world of Once Upon a Time, but the character will look different from his previous appearance on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, the show’s briefly aired spin-off. Naveen Andrews was unable to reprise the role, due to scheduling conflicts, so the Once Upon a Time producers were forced to recast the role. Oded Fehr of Covert Affairs and Stitchers has been chosen to take on the role and make it his own.
Season 6 of Once Upon a Time will air on September 25 on ABC.
