‘Pokémon GO’: Brooklyn Native Catches Them All
The Pokémon GO craze isn’t dying out anytime soon. A Brooklyn native, Nick Johnson, has reportedly caught all of the available Pokémon in North America. This does not include the missing legendary Pokémon and a few others. According to Business Insider, Johnson caught all of the Pokémon in the New York City area. Johnson went as far as New Jersey to catch a Porygon.

The original Pokémon game has only 151 monsters that are catchable. In Pokémon GO, there are a few Pokémon missing from even Johnson’s collection. Technically speaking, Johnson caught all of the Pokémon only available in North America. Not all of the 151 Pokémon are available in North America. Currently missing from his collection are Mr.Mime, Kangaskhan, Farfetche’d, Ditto and the legendary Pokémon.
Mr. Mime is only available in Europe, Kangaskhan is only available in Australia, and Farfetche’d is only available in Asia. According to Heavy, it is possible to obtain these Pokémon without traveling the world. These “region specific” Pokémon can be hatched in five kilometer and 10 kilometer eggs.
According to PCMag.com, Johnson walked over 129 miles in two weeks. He also is searching for a travel company to sponsor his trip to another country in search of the “region exclusive” Pokémon. His goal is to be the first to complete the entire collection.
Eggs can be picked up at the various Pokéstops gamers come across while playing Pokémon GO. Not every Pokéstop yields an egg and if it does, it may not be a higher level egg. Two kilometer eggs are the most common to find. Five and 10 kilometer eggs are harder to find. The distance attached to the egg is the exact distance to travel that is needed for the egg to hatch.
However, it doesn’t seem as easy as it sounds. Managing to get an 10 kilometer egg doesn’t always mean you a guaranteed a rare Pokémon. Any Pokémon could come out of an egg, but with an egg that has a larger distance attached, your chances of getting a rarer Pokémon are better.
Most people are impatient and walking all that way to catch an egg is sometimes not that feasible for everyone. Gamers are improvising by using their bikes or simply leaving the app open in their pocket while driving. However, Niantic was smart enough to realize that these stunts might be pulled.
Pokémon GO will pick up on the amount of speed you are going and the game will stop working properly. If a person is driving and just left the phone by their side, once the car gets to a certain speed, the app won’t process. It will sporadically record the distance you travel and the egg will not hatch any faster.
WikiHow has listed multiple methods on how to hatch eggs faster. The methods include putting a phone on a turn table, attaching a phone to a drone, leaving the app open in traffic, and even taping a phone to a fan.
Nick Johnson is currently the only player credited with completing the “catch them all” task. There are no gamers that have surfaced with proof that have achieved a similar accomplishment. Johnson didn’t take any shortcuts or the easy way out. He caught all of the Pokémon the old-fashioned way, with the exception of using an Uber to hunt for Porygon.

Gamers around the world are now going to have to beat Johnson to the punch before he manages to travel and capture all of the 151 Pokémon. He still has a few more very difficult Pokémon to catch. The legendary Pokémon include Mew, MewTwo, Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno. It is rumored that gamers have to battle in order to get the right to catch these legendary Pokémon at various Pokémon GO events that will be held.
