SDCC 2016: Katheryn Winnick Reveals A Catfight Between Lagertha And Aslaug In ‘Vikings’, Plus What Travis Fimmel Wished His Sons Had Done In The Season 4 Mid-Season Finale

San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing, so it is the perfect time for fans of TV shows to get brand new information on their favorite shows. For fans of History’s Vikings, here’s everything we know so far about the Season 4 return.

While at Comic-Con, Entertainment Weekly interviewed the cast present for the Vikings panel. Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick, Alexander Ludwig, and Gustaf Skarsgard weighed in on the Season 4 return of Vikings. Here’s what they revealed.

  • Travis Fimmel, who plays the main character, Ragnar Lothbrok, wished that during the finale scene of the mid-season finale of Vikings, when Ragnar was asking, “Who wants to be king,” one of Ragnar’s sons had stepped up and challenged him.
  • It was no great secret, but Katheryn Winnick confirmed the fate of her character, Lagertha, who was injured quite severely in the mid-season finale of Vikings. While fans got to see the return of Ragnar Lothbrok in the mid-season finale, Lagertha was not seen at all after the time hop at the end of the episode. Many fans were concerned Lagertha did not survive the second battle at Paris. However, since the episode screened, the show’s creator, Michael Hirst has confirmed Lagertha survived her injuries, something Winnick also confirmed during her interview with Entertainment Weekly.
  • Katheryn Winnick also confirmed there will be a “catfight” between Lagertha, and Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) in the Season 4 return of Vikings. However, something completely “unexpected” will crop up as a result of this.
  • Speaking of Lagertha, the cast were quick to point out that while their characters have aged significantly, Lagertha still appears to look the same. And this is something fans have been starting to notice. In the recent teaser video History released for the Season 4 return, ahead of the full trailer reveal at Comic-Con, one photo still showed a slightly aged Lagertha, but compared to the men around her, it really isn’t a very dramatic change. Winnick did admit that while Lagertha appears to remain stagnant, looks-wise, her character has grown from where fans last saw her in Season 4 of Vikings, and Lagertha is “a different place in her life.”

  • Alexander Ludwig, who plays Bjorn Ironside in History’s Vikings, confirms his character, along with Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard), will travel to the Mediterranean. While he was hesitant to say much about the upcoming storyline, he did admit the relationship between him and his father’s longtime friend, Floki, would flourish.
  • Gustaf revealed that Floki calms down a little in the second half of Season 4 of Vikings. Although, he then claims this may not be the case for long.
  • Winnick also confirmed that filming was still underway in Ireland for Season 5 of Vikings. She was not eager, however, to share any teasers for Season 5, insisting that the show’s creator, Michael Hirst (who writes every episode himself unassisted), remained tight-lipped when it came to upcoming storylines and plot advancements. It looks like fans will just have to wait until next year to find out what happens in Season 5 of Vikings!

This year marks the 47th year that the San Diego Comic-Con has been held, making it the longest-running convention of its kind. San Diego Comic-Con runs from Thursday, July 21, to Sunday, July 24, at the San Diego Convention Center.
