Ellen DeGeneres Interviews Kellie Pickler On Inspiration Behind Buzz Cut [Video]
Country music singer Kellie Pickler recently sat down with Ellen DeGeneres to talk more about the inspiration behind her decision to go bald.
Pickler, who debuted her newly buzzed hairdo last week on Good Morning America, said the move was to support one of her best friends, Summer Miller, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in June and started chemotherapy treatments just last week.
Kellie told Ellen:
“It’s just hair! I will be honest with you, I was a little nervous and she was too. [We thought], ‘I hope we don’t have some crazy birthmark or wart or mole or something … but we had fun.”
The 26-year-old singer and former “American Idol” contestant went on to discuss the importance of being by Miller’s side throughout the entire ordeal:
“I think the last thing you want for anyone you love to feel like is that, you don’t want them to to walk through the valley alone. I was able to be with her for her first chemo treatment, which was important I think for both of us, because, like I said, she’s my big sister. She really is. We’re not blood kin but we are sisters.”
Despite the difficulty of the battle her friend faces, Pickler said she was confident that Summer would fight through the pain and persevere.
“She’s doing good. Of course, it’s hard. It’s hard on your body, it’s hard on your mind. It’s not an easy thing to go through. But she’s a strong woman and she’s handled it with such grace.”
