Bernie Sanders Fans Plan DNC ‘Intervention’ As Weird Rally, Protest Details Emerge
Will the DNC in Philadelphia be an event to remember because of Bernie Sanders’ fans? On Twitter, fans of Bernie Sanders are excited he will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Monday, July 25 in Philadelphia. However, some of the posts on Twitter tagged with #UniteBlue, #DNCinPHL, or #SeeYouInPhilly include unexpected information about the 2016 DNC protests and rallies.
Interestingly, it appears that #OccupyDNC could be the most popular hashtag during the DNC because some #StillSanders fans are making unique plans for the event. According to AMNY, the goal of Occupy DNC is to “sway superdelegates away from Hillary Clinton to Bernie Sanders.”
Naturally, there will likely be a lot of broken-hearted Bernie Sanders fans at the DNC who are currently tweeting #FeelingBerned, and the fact that not all of Bernie Sanders’ fans are going to be supporting Hillary Clinton will potentially make the DNC full of awkward moments.
Around July 16, hashtags from Bernie Sanders supporters began circulating on Twitter for #DNCWalkOut and #CrookedClinton to show their “dissatisfaction” with Hillary Clinton.
Alternatively, some Bernie Sanders fans are tweeting about their frustration with the DNC rules that make the convention seem less like a rally. For example, posts on Twitter around July 22 that were tagged with #SeeYouInPhilly or #DNCinPHL brought up a number of issues.
In particular, one Bernie Sanders fan tweeted, “So the DNC won’t allow Bernie delegates to wear Bernie shirts? Sit together? Or get there on time?”
This tweet could have been referencing a Reddit thread from July 22 titled “DNC is leaving Sanders Delegates out of the loop and/or giving them inaccurate information,” which discusses alleged information received by Bernie Sanders delegates from the DNC.
In the thread, it says Bernie Sanders delegates were told by the DNC that “there is to be no Sanders bling/flair/shirts or anything showing support for Sanders on the [DNC] floor.”
Some of the rallies or protests at the DNC are also not of the usual variety. For instance, on July 21, USA Today wrote that the “Bernie or Bust” crowd is holding a protest at the DNC. This is not a small number of pro-Bernie Sanders protestors, and it is estimated that “35,000 to 50,000 demonstrators will gather at a half dozen sanctioned protest sites” near the DNC.
It was also reported that pro-Bernie Sanders demonstration groups placed 28 permits, but only nine have been issued so far.
In fact, according to a Politico report from July 20, six pro-Bernie Sanders protesters were arrested in Philadelphia before the DNC started. After the arrests, it was alleged that this incident could be “an early hint of what’s to come once the Democratic Party’s convention begins next week,” according to an assumed spokesperson for the protesters.
In addition to rallies, The Bern Report claims on July 21 that there will be “thousands of protesters in Philadelphia,” but that they are not attending the DNC to “riot” and are instead going there to do a Democratic National Intervention.
Speaking of awkward moments, Bernie Sanders may not mind some of his fans being eccentric, but he draws the line at his supporters voting for Donald Trump.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Donald Trump has been attempting to lure Bernie Sanders fans to vote Republican, but Bernie Sanders addressed this with several #RNCwithBernie posts on Twitter, according to a July 22 report from Time.
One of his first #RNCwithBernie posts on July 21 stated, “Those who voted for me will not support Trump who has made bigotry and divisiveness the cornerstone of his campaign.”
Other odd news that has emerged from Bernie Sanders fans surrounding the DNC is the postcards they sent to the Philadelphia Police Department. NBC Philadelphia reported on July 20, that their intentions were to “let Philadelphia Police know they are coming peacefully and do not plan to cause trouble during the DNC.”
The strange part about DNC rally news is that Bernie Sanders himself was denied a permit for his rally on July 24 at FDR Park. Bernie Sanders was told by the mayor’s office to reapply, but so far, there have been no updates.
Finally, as if the DNC does not already produce enough sensory overload, Life News announced on July 20 that a pro-life banner with pictures of aborted babies will be flown over DNC convention site.
There are also Bernie Sanders fans that are waiting for a surprise twist to the DNC. For example, one Twitter user pointed out that “Bernie Sanders has NOT conceded this race yet.”
This might not be so strange after all, and on July 22, Bustle supported this theory about Bernie Sanders and how he could still end up being the Democratic nominee for president with the following.
“[G]iven that Republican National Convention attendees staged a last attempt at ousting Trump earlier this week, it would be wise to consider whether the same could happen at Philadelphia’s DNC.”
Regardless, a Pew Poll from July 7 shows 85 percent of Bernie Sanders fans will support Hillary Clinton in the presidential race.
There are no current updates about whether or not the DNC will be considered “contested” as Bernie Sanders predicted on June 4, according to CNN.
