WWE News: Seth Rollins Expected to Win WWE Championship at WWE Battleground
WWE Battleground could be the last time WWE books all three members of The Shield in the same ring for a long time. During the WWE Draft, the current WWE Champion, Dean Ambrose, was drafted to SmackDown, while the No. 1 overall pick Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns will be staying on Monday Night Raw for the foreseeable future.
Before the brand extension becomes official, all three men will fight for the WWE Championship one more time to determine who will be “The Man” in WWE going forward into the new era of WWE programming. Every man has a chance to walk out as the WWE Champion, but only one will be able to bring the title into the brand extension.
At the start of this week, there was so much going on with the WWE Draft and Ambrose defending the WWE title against Rollins on both Raw and SmackDown that it took a few days just to find out who would be walking into WWE Battleground with the championship. Dean Ambrose will be that man, but there is a rumor that he will not be taking the title with him to SmackDown.
Last week, it was rumored that Dean Ambrose could drop the WWE Championship to Seth Rollins as early as the night before the WWE Draft on Raw. The powers that be didn’t pull the trigger on the title change during this week’s Raw, but there was controversy in the finish that led to a rematch on SmackDown, which Ambrose was able to win in the main event of the show.
The Lunatic Fringe will remain the WWE Champion until at least Sunday night, but there is still a lot of speculation that Dean Ambrose will be dropping the title at WWE Battleground. Roman Reigns could certainly walk out of the triple threat match as the champion, but it is very unlikely he will do so considering Vince McMahon is still very unhappy with Roman after he failed WWE’s Wellness Policy. If that is the case, then Seth Rollins will be walking out of WWE Battleground the WWE Champion.
According to a rumor from CageSideSeats.com, Seth Rollins is expected to win the WWE Championship on Sunday. The finish of the match will be Rollins getting a pinfall victory over Dean Ambrose. That result will cement Rollins’ position as the strongest of the three men and will give him the vindication that he has reclaimed his spot as “The Man” in WWE.
Previously, CageSideSeats.com has also claimed that Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins is the most likely main event for WWE Summerslam next month, and it is rumored to be for the WWE Championship. It appears as if the writing is on the wall, because Reigns and Rollins are both on Raw, so the only thing that is left is for one of the two men to win the WWE title on Sunday night.
If WWE pulls the trigger on Reigns vs. Rollins II for WWE Summerslam, the one who is really getting the raw deal is Ambrose. He’ll be heading to SmackDown empty handed, and it’s possible that WWE may not even establish another World title for the brand extension. That could leave Dean Ambrose “banished” from the WWE title picture after a month-long title reign that may have only happened because Roman Reigns violated the WWE Wellness Policy. Needless to say, that is unfair.
Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins is a great match, but if Ambrose is moving to SmackDown to start completely over and WWE Summerslam ends with Reigns as the WWE Champion again, a lot of people are going to be very displeased with that result. The WWE Universe will learn what the powers that be are planning on Sunday, but the expectation is Seth Rollins walks out of the WWE Champion.
