‘Pokémon GO’: Where To Catch The Rarest Pokémon In New York City
Pokémon GO is officially the world’s most popular game. Gamers all over the world have been trying to catch them all. A Brooklyn native, Nick Johnson, has reportedly caught all of the Pokémon available in North America, according to PIX 11. Johnson claims that most of the available Pokémon can be caught in the Brooklyn and Manhattan areas. If Johnson already completed that task in the short amount of time since the game’s release, it is definitely possible for others to do it. Here is a guide to the whereabouts of the rarest Pokémon in the New York City area.

Electabuzz
Electabuzz is one of the harder Pokémon to come across. This electric-powered Pokémon could be found anywhere where there is a profound amount of electricity being used. In the mornings, Electabuzz could be found in Elmhurst, Queens, around the area of Queens Center Mall.
Magmar
Magmar, one of the most powerful Fire-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, is a lot easier to find that one would think. Thankfully, Magmar’s whereabouts don’t coincide with fire. Magmar could be found in Forest Park, which is located in Glendale, Queens. Luckily for gamers, there actually happens to be plenty of Magmars that surround the area.
Dratini
Dratini is located throughout all of the Manhattan area. The dragon-type Pokémon could be found next to any kind of area that has water around it. The perfect example would be piers and the small ponds in Central Park. Dratini is one of the rarest Pokémon currently available.
Omanyte
Pokémon GO includes all of the original 151 Pokémon, including Omanyte, who is supposed to be “extinct” in the original Gameboy version. Since Omanyte is fossil Pokémon, it would be safe to assume that he could be found in a sandy or desert-like area. It actually happens to be quite the opposite. Omanyte can be caught in New York City’s very own Central Park.
Lapras And Aerodactyl
Both Pokémon are available for capture in the wild. Aerodactyl’s exact whereabouts are unknown, but there have been a few sightings around New York City. Twinfinite reported that the famed fossil Pokémon has been sighted in Times Square. There is also the possibility of hatching an Aerodactyl in a 10 km egg. According to a Reddit forum, a Lapras has appeared in Bryant Park and Times Square.
Like Aerodactyl, Lapras can also be hatched through a 10 km egg. Niantic, the Pokémon GO creators, made it a very difficult task to hatch an egg. You have to walk a certain amount of miles in order to hatch a egg that has a certain distance attached to it.
Charizard
Charizard has always been a fan favorite. There have been multiple sightings of Charizard throughout New York City. Trying to catch a Charizard is basically luck of the draw and being in the right place at the right time. There is not a specific place fire-type Pokémon hang around. Thrillist claims that there is a wild Charizard flying around Queens College in Flushing, New York.
Snorlax
Pokémon GO has also made it quite difficult to come across a Snorlax. Snorlax could also be hatched through a 10 km egg. This normal-type Pokémon is highly desirable due to his high level of defense. Snorlax has also been seen near Queens College on Kissena Boulevard.
Pikachu
Pikachu is the most famous and well known Pokémon in the world. It only makes sense that fans would be scrambling all over New York City to try and catch one. The brand name of all Pokémon could be found in the Flatiron District in Manhattan.
