‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Spoilers — Caterina Scorsone Hints At Major Drama Between Meredith And Maggie

Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) secret romance with Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) is going to create a lot of drama when Grey’s Anatomy returns for Season 13 this fall. How will Maggie (Kelly McCreary) react when she finds out that Meredith is dating her crush?

According to Vine Report, the Season 12 finale featured Meredith and Riggs hooking up. It was a surprising twist, especially considering Maggie’s feelings for Riggs and Meredith’s complicated past.

Back in Season 11, Meredith lost her husband, Derek (Patrick Dempsey), in a tragic accident. Ever since his death, Meredith has shown little interest in pursuing anything romantic.

However, that changed after she met Riggs, and their relationship is expected to be a major storyline next season.

Of course, Maggie has also expressed her desire to get with Riggs. In fact, she even told Meredith about her feelings for Riggs and asked if she should ask him out.

Although Grey’s Anatomy fans are already expecting an epic confrontation between Meredith and Maggie, Caterina Scorsone recently confirmed the drama in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“Right now, Amelia doesn’t know about either of their situations with Riggs, so that will be something really fun to explore next year — how she’s going to find out about Meredith and how she’s going to find out about Maggie, and how they’re going to deal with it,” Scorsone shared.

Scorsone, who plays Amelia, added that Maggie will eventually get over the feud. After all, the two have grown close and are family.

“I don’t know that they’ll necessarily be at odds. Sisters before misters. It’s possible that they’ll both try and accommodate one another,” she stated. “I’m sure Amelia will do whatever she can to ease anyone’s pain in the family.”

That being said, the Christian Times is reporting that McCreary admitted her character will be “genuinely crushed” in an interview with TV Line.

McCreary also shared how Maggie’s relationship with Meredith will undergo a few changes in light of the news about Riggs.

“So [that closeness] has to be destroyed,” McCreary explained. “If you’re in a good place, that’s not sustainable.”

Apparently, Maggie will be heartbroken after Meredith breaks the news to her and ends her dreams of getting with Riggs. In the end, Maggie will have to choose between her feelings for Riggs and her relationship with Meredith.

“I guess the question is, does she value her relationship with Meredith more than she values her desire to find love,” McCreary concluded.

For now, fans will have wait until the new season of Grey’s Anatomy returns to find the answer.

Apart from the drama with Maggie, Parent Herald is reporting that Meredith might be at odds with Owen (Kevin McKidd) as well.

Owen was very close with Meredith’s former husband, Derek, and has developed an older brother-like relationship with her ever since his passing. Not only is Owen expected to be overly protective of Meredith, but his past dealings with Riggs only complicate the situation.

As fans will recall, Riggs dated Owen’s sister prior to her mysterious disappearance. The two characters fought pretty much the entire time last season, but they started to make amends as the season wrapped.

Now that Riggs is dating Meredith, however, there is no telling how Owen will react.

Clearly, Meredith’s relationship with Riggs is going to be a major source of drama in the upcoming season. Hopefully, Meredith and Maggie are able to work out their differences, because it is great to see Meredith finally dating again.

Of course, it still isn’t clear if Meredith’s relationship with Riggs will last throughout the season or if things will fall apart before then.

Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy is scheduled to premiere on September 22 on ABC.
