Scott Adkins Battles Jean Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundren In Latest ‘Universal Soldier’ Trailer
Director John Hyams’ upcoming sci-fi/actioner Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning reunites three faces you may remember from The Expendables 2. In addition to Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, the latest installment in the Universal Soldier franchise features rising action star Scott Adkins. According to the Examiner, audiences will be dazzled by the film’s endless supply of explosions and wonky dialogue later this year.
Although two other sequels were developed by Showtime — specifically, Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms and Universal Soldier III: Unfinished Business — only the films starring Jean-Claude Van Damme are considered to be part of the series. So if you haven’t seen these films and you feel you may be missing out on something spectacular, it’s safe to say you’re not.
The official plotline of Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is explained as follows:
“John (Adkins) wakes up from a coma to discover his wife and daughter were slaughtered in a brutal home invasion. Haunted by images of the attack, he vows to kill the man responsible, Luc Deveraux (Van Damme). While John tries to piece his reality back together, things get more complicated when he is pursued by a relentless UniSol (Arlovski). As John gets closer to Deveraux and the rouge army of genetically enhanced warriors led by back-from-the-dead leader Andrew Scott (Lundgren), John discovers more about himself and begins to call into question everything he believed to be true.”
According to IGN, the latest entry in the Universal Soldier franchise will appear in select theaters on November 30. For those who don’t live anywhere near a participating theater, the latest cinematic pairing of Scott Adkins, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Dolph Lundgren is slated to hit VOD and DVD on October 30. The Expendables 2, meanwhile, is currently estimated to arrive on home video this December. The trailer for Day of Reckoning has been embedded below.
