Norman Reedus Claims That ‘Boondock Saints 3’ Is Going To Happen
Norman Reedus, the Boondock Saints alumnus who is currently kicking some zombie behind on AMC’s The Walking Dead, recently confirmed that, yes, Boondock Saints 3 is going to happen. According to IFC, co-star Sean Patrick Flanery and director Troy Duffy are all slated to return for the third outing. Although the gang doesn’t currently have a script at their disposal, the trio are reportedly dedicated to bringing one more installment of the series to its legion of die-hard fans.
“I’m in L.A right now,” Reedus explained. “I’m meeting with Sean and Troy tonight. I just landed a couple hours ago and tonight I’m going over to Troy’s house with Sean. It’s definitely in the works. Look for it. It’s gonna be crazy.”
For those who are unfamiliar with the films, the first Boondock Saints movie followed the adventures of fraternal twins Connor and Murphy MacManus as they cut a bloody swath through the local underworld. Although the film didn’t find success at the box office, it eventually enjoyed a cult following on home video.
After burning a few bridges within the industry — watch the film Overnight if you’re curious to see how success can derail a career — Troy Duffy and the MacManus brothers returned to the big screen with Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. The movie, which follows the brothers’ journey to Boston to avenge the murder of their favorite priest, was a moderate success, though many fans felt it didn’t come close to capturing the magic of the original.
According to Box Office Mojo, the sequel made around $10 million at the box office. Fortunately for producers, the flick only cost around $8 million to make. Despite the somewhat lackluster performance during its theatrical run, producers seem keen on bringing the MacManus brothers back for yet another adventure.
